Duties will include 1)<\/span> field<\/span> data collection throughout<\/span> the year; 2)<\/span> supervising field staff and coordinating<\/span>
field operations<\/span>; 3) office work including<\/span> planning, review and<\/span> analysis of hydrologic and meteorological<\/span>
data, writing reports<\/span> and publications<\/span>, and<\/span> planning and implementing<\/span> project improvements; and<\/span> 4<\/span>)<\/span>
working with<\/span> state, federal, and academic<\/span> partners. The incumbent will work<\/span> under the supervision of a<\/span>
Research Hydrologist<\/span> both<\/span> independently and<\/span> as part of a team<\/span>. The position requires familiarity with<\/span>
surface and subsurface<\/span> hydrologic<\/span> measurements<\/span>, hydrologic<\/span> data analys<\/span>i<\/span>s techniques,<\/span> clear and concise<\/span>
scientific<\/span> communication (written and oral)<\/span>,<\/span> leadership capacity,<\/span> and strong interpersonal skills.<\/span> The<\/span>
demonstrated ability to independently complete a research project (e.g., a thesis in<\/span> a related field) as<\/span>
will be given strong preference.<\/span> This is a federal government position<\/span> open<\/span> only<\/span> to<\/span> U.S. citizens.<\/span><\/span>
The position will be located at the<\/span> PSW<\/span> office in Fort Bragg, CA.<\/span> PSW is one of<\/span> several<\/span> research<\/span> units<\/span> in<\/span>
the research and development<\/span> branch<\/span> of the Forest Service, a component of the U.S. Department of<\/span>
Agriculture, and works at the forefront of science to improve the health and use of our Nation’s forests<\/span>
and grasslands. Our researchers work independently and with a range of partners, i<\/span>ncluding other<\/span>
federal and state<\/span> agencies, academia, nonprofit groups, and industry. The<\/span> knowledge and<\/span> technology<\/span>
produced through basic and applied science programs is available to the public for its benefit and use.<\/span>
Fort Bragg is located along the northe<\/span>rn California coast about midway between San Francisco and the<\/span>
Oregon border. Historically a lumber and fishing town, Fort Bragg has become economically more<\/span>
dependent on tourism. Fort Bragg provides services for the coastal population of about 25,000 and<\/span>
