Salary<\/strong>– $1<\/span>6,502<\/span> living allowance<\/span> paid over the<\/span> 11<\/span>–<\/span>month<\/span> term of service<\/span> (approx. $1,<\/span>500<\/span> monthly<\/span>, before taxes<\/span>).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

POSITION SUMMARY<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
This position is in partnership between the Confluence Environmental Center, AmeriCorps Program, and Washington <\/span>County Solid Waste & Recycling. The Waste Prevention Educator will build on<\/span> the successes of previous AmeriCorps <\/span>Members in the following ways:<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Encourage Washington County community members to waste less food at home. Preventing food waste has <\/span>emerged as a priority across diverse stakeholders as a way to increase food security and<\/span> protect the environment. <\/span>As part of the Eat Smart, Waste Less campaign, the Member will educate community members about wasted food <\/span>prevention through a series of tactics<\/span> such<\/span> as<\/span> event tabling at farmers markets and community events, door<\/span>–<\/span>to<\/span>– <\/span>door canvassi<\/span>ng in multifamily communities, movie viewing events and presentations to community groups (50%).<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Encourage community members to prevent waste and recycle at home, with a focus on historically underserved <\/span>communities. The Member will assist staff in offerin<\/span>g technical assistance to multifamily property managers and <\/span>providing education and outreach to multifamily communities upon request. The Member will recruit Master<\/span>
Recycler volunteers to help with outreach and education efforts (30%).<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Depending on time, s<\/span>taffing, and other factors, the Member might work on:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

o<\/span> Researching the feasibility of a local community compost program.<\/span><\/span>
o<\/span> Supporting local repair and reuse initiatives.<\/span><\/span>
