role=\"presentation\">long<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">endurance<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">autonomous platforms (gliders, buoys, profiling floats)<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">equipped with passive acoustic<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">monitoring instrumentation<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to transmit<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">whale<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">detection information to shore in near real time<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">for review and dissemination to academ<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ic, government, conservation and industry<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stakeholders.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Whale detections from the Robots4Whales system are used on the U.S. east<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">coast to trigger NOAA Slow Zones for Right Whales, on the U.S. west coast to reduce ship<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">strikes of blue, fin and humpback wha<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">les as part of the Whale Safe program (whalesafe.com),<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and in Canada to trigger mandatory restrictions of ship speeds and closure of fishing grounds<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">protect North Atlantic right whales.<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The internal working title for this position<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is<\/span> <span
