{"id":46496,"date":"2022-07-07T08:53:23","date_gmt":"2022-07-07T15:53:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/?p=46496"},"modified":"2022-07-07T08:53:23","modified_gmt":"2022-07-07T15:53:23","slug":"job-aquarium-specialist-port-townsend-marine-science-center-port-townsend-wa-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/job-aquarium-specialist-port-townsend-marine-science-center-port-townsend-wa-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Job: Aquarium Specialist, Port Townsend Marine Science Center (Port Townsend, WA)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!--more--><b><strong>For more information, please follow this link:\u00a0<\/strong><\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservationjobboard.com\/job-listing-aquarium-specialist-port-townsend-washington\/4088234033?utm_source=ongage&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=regular\">https:\/\/www.conservationjobboard.com\/job-listing-aquarium-specialist-port-townsend-washington\/4088234033?utm_source=ongage&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=regular<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Salary<\/strong>&#8211; 18.03\/hour<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Essential Functions of the Position<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Performs routine animal care, monitoring and maintenance to assure the physical and behavioral health and well-being of animals and the presentation of the species in an engaging environment.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Completes required maintenance of aquarium life support systems and related equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Provides interpretation and education to guests in the aquarium and exhibit spaces, during routine operations, events and tours, both in-person and virtually.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Performs opening and closing procedures, staffing of exhibits (as cashier or docent), till reconciliation, cash handling, and reporting.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Participates in the support, supervision, and training of personnel (volunteers, interns, Americorps members, and staff) in aquarium operations, visitor operations, and interpretation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Creates learning resources and interpretation content including updates, reference lists, written materials, social media content, signage, and audiovisual resources as directed.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Provides community-based outreach including classroom learning, community events, citizen science research projects, and more.<\/li>\n<li>Ensures a clean and safe environment for visitors and personnel.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Maintains records and reports for animal care, aquarium systems, and visitor operations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Serves as a responder to the 24hr on-call LSS alert system in rotating shifts with other personnel.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Previous education in Aquarium Science and\/or a life science related field (i.e. Biology, Marine Biology, Zoology) is strongly preferred.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience with animal care in a public, research, or wildlife facility.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience in species identification, behavioral observations and data collection.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience in natural science interpretation or public education.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Excellence in customer service practices, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with diverse groups of all ages.<\/li>\n<li>Should be comfortable with using or learning, Google workspace, Square payment system, social media, and more.<\/li>\n<li>A demonstrated passion for conservation is a huge plus!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Working Conditions and Technical\/Physical Requirements<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weekend and holiday work will be required for this position.\u00a0 Coverage of the 24hr LSS alert system will also be required on a rotating basis .\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Must have the ability to input data, read computer screens and printed material, communicate effectively in-person, via phone, and email.<\/li>\n<li>This role requires standing, walking, stooping or crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, grasping, lifting, feeling, hearing and talking.
