CSIRO Coasts and Ocean Research (COR) Program is a world leader in fisheries research, focusing on<\/span>
environmental, economic and so<\/span>cial impacts if fishing. It conducts empirical and quantitative modelling<\/span>
research for management of domestic fisheries managed federally in Australia and throughout the Indo<\/span>–<\/span>
Pacific, including stocks that straddle jurisdictional boundaries.<\/span><\/span>
The role of<\/span> R<\/span>esearch Scientist<\/span> Staff in CSIRO<\/span> is<\/span> to conduct innovative research leading to scientific<\/span>
achievements that are aligned with CSIRO’s strategies.<\/span> They are expected to:<\/span><\/span>
1.<\/span> E<\/span>ngage<\/span> in scientific activit<\/span>ies ranging from fundamental research to the investigation of<\/span>
specific industry or community problems,<\/span><\/span>
2.<\/span> B<\/span>uild<\/span> and maintain networks,<\/span><\/span>
3.<\/span> P<\/span>lay<\/span> a lead role in securing project funds,<\/span><\/span>
4.<\/span> P<\/span>rovide<\/span> scientific leadership and pursue new ideas and approaches that create new<\/span>
concepts<\/span>, and<\/span><\/span>
5.<\/span> M<\/span>ay<\/span> be involved in leading<\/span> research projects or undertaking work that has impact on the<\/span>
development of scientific or technical knowledge.<\/span><\/span>
The<\/span>y will also<\/span> work in a team conducting fisheries research including stock estimation in Australian<\/span>
and international fisheries, with a particul<\/span>ar application to management related issues. The<\/span>
successful applicant will have a good understanding of statistics, including estimation and<\/span>
feedback control, and be able to apply this understanding through quantitative simulation<\/span>
modelling and analysis fo<\/span>r decision support. The position will contribute to a range of studies and<\/span>
potentially involve a variety of different quantitative and qualitative research methods. They will<\/span>
require high level skills with demonstrated ability to work with industry, develo<\/span>p and maintain a<\/span>
