{"id":46056,"date":"2022-05-18T13:53:59","date_gmt":"2022-05-18T20:53:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/?p=46056"},"modified":"2022-05-18T13:53:59","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T20:53:59","slug":"salmon-watershed-scientist-wild-salmon-center-portland-or","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/salmon-watershed-scientist-wild-salmon-center-portland-or\/","title":{"rendered":"Salmon Watershed Scientist &#8211; Wild Salmon Center (Portland, OR)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><strong>For more information, please follow this link:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/environment.uw.edu\/career-opportunities\/salmon-watershed-scientist-2\/\">https:\/\/environment.uw.edu\/career-opportunities\/salmon-watershed-scientist-2\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Salary<\/strong>&#8211; $65,000<\/p>\n<p><strong>Primary Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide coordinating capacity to support for collaboration and communication between the WSC Science Advisory Board, Science Director, and Board of Directors.<\/li>\n<li>Work with the Science Director and Program Directors to prioritize and deliver the most appropriate science and technical assistance to projects or initiatives as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Work with WSC\u2019s Science Director and Communications Program to contribute to peer-reviewed research and to develop science communications that educate and motivate target audiences on key salmon conservation issues.<\/li>\n<li>Cultivate collaborative relationships with agency, academic, NGO and private-sector peers to provide guidance and access to the best available science.<\/li>\n<li>Work with WSC Scientists and the Development Program to help secure funding for priority science initiatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Position Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience and interest in project management and coordination<\/li>\n<li>Strong organizational and time management skills<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of Pacific salmon life histories and watersheds.<\/li>\n<li>Active participation in and familiarity with applied salmon conservation science.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills; effective diplomatic and friendly communication style, and ability to translate complex science and conservation issues into clear and understandable language to diverse audiences.<\/li>\n<li>Passion and commitment to the conservation of wild salmon and their ecosystems.<\/li>\n<li>This is a full-time exempt position. Work will involve occasional evening or weekend hours.<\/li>\n<li>The position involves regional and international travel.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to participate in field work including hiking in diverse terrain in and around flowing water.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to attend meetings and workshops outside of regular work hours as requested.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong><br \/>\nMSc in fisheries, freshwater ecology, geomorphology, watershed science, or related field, or a bachelors and 3-years of work experience.<\/p>\n<p>\nSalary range starts at $65,000 but will be determined commensurate with experience.
