Nisqually River Education Project is excited to announce that we are seeking TWO AmeriCorps members for the 2022-23 school year (September 1, 2022 \u2013 July 15, 2023)!<\/p>\n

Do you\u00a0love connecting kids with nature? Sharing your passion\u00a0for the environment with kids? Working with a fun, dynamic\u00a0team? Teaching youth how to\u00a0make the world a better place? Consider applying for one of our Americorps positions! From the snowy slopes of Mt Rainier, along the banks of the Nisqually River, and all the way down to the salty shores of our Puget Sound beaches, we engage students 4th-12th grades in environmental education, stewardship, and recreation activities.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Environmental Education Member\u00a0<\/a>will work with over 40 teachers and more than 1,000 students in service learning field trips ranging from water quality monitoring, riparian habitat restoration, salmon tossing, field investigations on Puget Sound beaches, explorations of the local wildlife refuge to monitor wildlife and learn ethnobotany, volunteering at the local salmon hatchery, removing invasive species and more. Their aim will be to foster a sense of place and empower students and adults to connect with their local environments to create positive change through hands-on, outdoor learning projects supported with in-class lessons. The\u00a0Environmental Education \u2013 Tribal Liaison Member<\/a>\u00a0will engage tribal youth in understanding the issues facing our local salmon, inspiring action, and fostering the next generation of environmental stewards through classroom lessons, recreational opportunities and field experiences. \u00a0This position will work within Wa He Lut Indian School and the Nisqually Tribe\u2019s youth Center to plan and implement service learning field experiences ranging from water quality monitoring, riparian habitat restoration, salmon tossing, field investigations on Puget Sound beaches, explorations of the local wildlife refuge to monitor wildlife and learn ethnobotany, volunteering at the local salmon hatchery, removing invasive species, hiking, snowshoeing, horseback riding and more.
