Salary<\/strong>– $15\/hour<\/span><\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION<\/span><\/strong>
This Estuarium internship program provides college students and recent graduates with<\/span>
environmental education and animal husbandry experience, as well as experience with working<\/span>
at a small non-profit organization. While the majority of the internship will be spent assisting the<\/span>
Education Coordinator by providing hands-on field trips to K-12 school groups, leading beach<\/span>
investigations, and delivering marine programs for the community; this position will require<\/span>
staffing the information desk, helping in facilities maintenance, and assisting with administrative<\/span>
projects.<\/span><\/p>\n


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES<\/span><\/strong>
\u25cf<\/span> Attend all Education Team meetings and trainings.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Lead a variety of environmental education programs for the public, including but not<\/span>
limited to, hands-on dissections, low tide investigations, plankton tows, and short lectures<\/span>
on such topics as marine biodiversity, water quality and estuaries; For a description of<\/span>

\u25cf<\/span> Create, document, and organize lesson plans, assessments, and evaluations in a<\/span>
professional manner by shadowing and learning from the current Estuarium staff, and by<\/span>
independent research.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Assist with other duties as necessary, including working at the information desk, facilities<\/span>
maintenance, and the Estuarium Office;<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Foster learning opportunities that inspire people of all ages to connect with, protect, and<\/span>
enjoy the unique estuary environment of south Puget Sound<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Assist with special events activities including facility events, lectures, and hosting<\/span>
visiting groups of students and scouts;<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Other duties as assigned.<\/span><\/p>\n

QUALIFICATIONS<\/span><\/strong>
\u25cf<\/span> Currently enrolled in college course in environmental or marine biology field, education,<\/span>
communications, natural resource management, business or public administration, or<\/span>
related field,<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> or<\/span> Recent graduate in fields listed above.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Excellent listening and communication skills. Good public speaking skills; comfortable<\/span>
speaking to diverse groups of people.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Excels at working with a wide variety of community members\/volunteers.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Interpersonal skills essential for working collaboratively with staff, board, donors,<\/span>
partners, and the regional community.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Computer proficiency with knowledge of MS Office applications.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Ability to be self-directed and work within a team environment.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Ability to work in physically challenging environment including long periods exposed in<\/span>
extreme temperatures and field conditions while keeping an upbeat personality.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Ability to lift 40 lbs.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Must possess a valid Driver\u2019s License.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> CLEAN Background check is required before selection.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Previous work as an educator and developing STEM, NGSS, Common Core, and NOAA<\/span>
Ocean Literacy aligned curriculum desired.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Current First Aid\/CPR certified or ability to become certified after hire.<\/span>
Applicant will use their own personal computer and easily learn new computer programs\/apps.<\/span><\/p>\n


TERM<\/span><\/strong>
The term of the internship is 320 hours over a period of four months:<\/span>
