Salary<\/strong>– $15.00\/hr<\/span><\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION<\/span><\/strong>
This Estuarium internship program provides college students and recent graduates with<\/span>
communications and community development experience, as well as experience with working at<\/span>
a small non-profit organization. This internship will assist in translating K-12 Education<\/span>
curriculum, Estuarium exhibits (both virtual and printed), and marketing materials. This position<\/span>
will help create opportunities to engage the Hispanic and Latinx communities and enhance the<\/span>
Estuarium\u2019s programs to meet community outreach needs.<\/span><\/p>\n


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES<\/span><\/strong>
\u25cf<\/span> Increase the number of bilingual publications, signage, and programming at the<\/span>
Estuarium, including but not limited to: environmental education materials in Spanish,<\/span>
Estuarium interpretation, curriculum kits, exhibits, marketing materials, and website<\/span>
options in Spanish.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Be a part of the development and implementation of exhibit interpretation both written<\/span>
and verbally.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Create, document, and organize lesson plans, assessments, and evaluations in a<\/span>
professional manner by shadowing and learning from the current Estuarium staff, and by<\/span>
independent research.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Coordinate with and identify Hispanic and Latinx organizations and groups to implement<\/span>
programming and foster partnerships.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Host additional bilingual interpretation and\/or environmental education events at local<\/span>
beaches and at the Estuarium.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Assist with environmental education events, outreach, and participation in other duties<\/span>
such as Pier Peer, Discovery Speaker Series, Meet the Beach, and Harbor Days.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Foster learning opportunities that inspire people of all ages to connect with, protect, and<\/span>
enjoy the unique estuary environment of south Puget Sound<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Promote and practice stewardship of the Estuarium\u2019s facility and local beaches<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Other duties as assigned.<\/span><\/p>\n


QUALIFICATIONS<\/span><\/strong>
\u25cf<\/span> Currently enrolled in college course in communications, business or public<\/span>
administration, or related field,<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> or<\/span> Recent graduate in fields listed above.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Proficient in Spanish both written and oral required.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Excellent listening and communication skills. Good public speaking skills; comfortable<\/span>
speaking to diverse groups of people.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25cf<\/span> Excels at working with a wide variety of community members\/volunteers.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Interpersonal skills essential for working collaboratively with staff, board, donors,<\/span>
partners, and the regional community.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Computer proficiency with knowledge of MS Office applications.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Ability to be self-directed and work within a team environment.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Must possess a valid Driver\u2019s License.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> CLEAN Background check is required before selection.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Previous work or related experience in community development and communications<\/span>
desired.<\/span><\/p>\n


Applicant will use their own personal computer and\/or the desktop in the Estuarium office and<\/span>
easily learn new computer programs\/apps.<\/span><\/p>\n


TERM<\/span><\/strong>
The term of the internship is 160 hours over a period of four months:<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Spring internship \u2013 February through May<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Summer Internship \u2013 May through August<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Fall internship \u2013 August through November<\/span><\/p>\n
