The Executive Director is responsible<br \/>for providing leadership in implementing HEC\u2019s mission. The Executive Director supports the Board in<br \/>defining and articulating HEC\u2019s activities and strategies. The Executive Director leads the staff in<br \/>developing and carrying out a program of work to achieve organizational goals. The Executive Director is<br \/>responsible for representing HEC in the community as its primary spokesperson and building community<br \/>support for the organization and its programs.<br \/>Principal Duties and Responsibilities include:<br \/><br \/>Works with Board and staff to articulate and implement HEC\u2019s mission: assists and guides the<br \/>Board in developing a clear, shared vision for the future of the organization; builds<br \/>understanding around the current mission; develops appropriate strategies to advance that<br \/>mission; works with the Board and appropriate staff to develop HEC\u2019s strategic plan; is<br \/>responsible for the organizational implementation of the strategic plan; leads the staff in<br \/>developing and implementing work plans to accomplish the organization\u2019s programmatic,<br \/>conservation and financial goals.<br \/><br \/>Provides a strong public presence for HEC: acts as lead spokesperson for HEC and, as such, must<br \/>be a confident and articulate public speaker who can convey HEC\u2019s work and programs to a<br \/>broad array of audiences; represents HEC in appropriate local, regional and national forums;<br \/>Hoosier Environmental Council (HEC) Executive Director Position<br \/><br \/>seeks partnerships and collaboration through government and community involvement;<br \/>vigilantly protects HEC\u2019s reputation for integrity and quality.<br \/><br \/>Develops and implements fundraising and financial development strategies: works with the<br \/>Board and Director of Development to assess the current and future financial resources needed<br \/>to realize HEC\u2019s mission; seeks to preserve the fiscal integrity of HEC by operating within a<br \/>Board-approved annual budget; ensures maximum resource utilization and maintenance of the<br \/>organization in a positive financial position; serves as the lead fundraiser for HEC and solicits<br \/>major gifts; oversees HEC fundraising programs and activities, with a focus on expanding funding<br \/>sources as well as maintaining relationships with current donors; plays a key role in planning<br \/>fundraising strategies; works with staff, donors and Board members to secure adequate income<br \/>and develop strong personal commitments from those who have an interest in HEC\u2019s work.<br \/><br \/>Leads and maintains strong organization: oversees all personnel management issues; selects and<br \/>supports qualified staff; maintains strong personnel and organizational policies; sets high<br \/>standards of quality for all HEC programs, services and operations; delegates responsibility for<br \/>managing and supervising various programs, activities and functions to staff as appropriate;<br \/>confers regularly with senior staff to plan, coordinate and evaluate HEC\u2019s program and activities,<br \/>assists with unusual or complex transactions or situations and resolves various problems that<br \/>may arise.<br \/><br \/>Provides support and training to maximize the effectiveness of the Board of Directors:<br \/>participates in Board recruitment and orientation; develops and maintains a strong working<br \/>relationship with Board members; works in a collaborative manner to facilitate and coordinate<br \/>the work of all HEC committees; develops dynamic systems for sharing information with Board<br \/>leadership; employs appropriate systems for dialogue and communication between Board and<br \/>staff to ensure that the Board is kept abreast of all relevant organizational activities.<\/p>\n<p><br \/><strong>The Profile<\/strong><br \/>The Hoosier Environmental Council seeks an accomplished leader who demonstrates a keen<br \/>understanding of and passion for the organization\u2019s unique mission. This person must be ready to join<br \/>with the Board and staff to lead HEC in pursuing new strategic goals in a sustainable economy,<br \/>environmental health and justice and land and water protection. The individual must demonstrate a<br \/>proven ability in strategic leadership, fundraising, program management and oversight, collaborative<br \/>ventures and constituency building. A creative thinker with an entrepreneurial spirit is highly desired.<br \/>The ideal candidate will have a background that includes a high-level of strategic<br \/>conservation\/environmental leadership and management combined with a sophisticated understanding<br \/>of relationship-driven philanthropy, partnership and constituent management. Proven success in raising<br \/>significant resources from individuals, foundations, corporations and public entities on behalf of the<br \/>mission and organization is desirable. The preferred candidate will not only have to be a strategic leader<br \/>but will understand the mechanics of a small nonprofit with limited resources. By staying up to date with<br \/>effective tactics for reaching environmental goals, particularly through engaging with other state<br \/>environmental councils, the leader will help better position HEC within the state of Indiana.<br \/>Hoosier Environmental Council (HEC) Executive Director Position<br \/><br \/>The successful candidate will exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively interact with Board,<br \/>staff, environmental advocates and policy leaders, governmental officials, donors and other key<br \/>stakeholders. The Executive Director must be able to articulate the mission of HEC to a variety of<br \/>constituents and maintain effective and efficient external communication. This individual must be<br \/>confident, thoughtful and have the appropriate skills and presence to work in effectively, collegial and<br \/>collaborative manner across the state and region.<br \/>The ideal candidate will be a strong and effective leader and a strong listener with an inclusive, team-<br \/>oriented management style that inspires, empowers, motivates and develops staff. The candidate will<br \/>also have a keen ability to establish and maintain a productive and positive organizational culture with<br \/>all stakeholders (i.e., staff, board, donors, members and partners). A genuine and authentic connection<br \/>to nature and the outdoors is required.<br \/>Candidates with executive-level achievement in conservation, environmental education, advocacy,<br \/>policy, law and related fields are encouraged to apply.
