Contract lengths can vary, but 10-week minimum commitment is required. ******<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who we are:<\/strong> For more than 140 years, Holland America Line has been a recognized leader in cruising, taking our guests to exotic destinations around the world. Holland America team members are the heart of the guest experience and strive to ensure that each guest has a memorable time with us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you will do:<\/strong> The Naturalist is the go-to person onboard for all things nature-related and performs nature specific presentations that are relevant in Alaska for our ports of call: Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, Sitka, Hubbard Glacier, and Glacier Bay. In this role, you will specifically assist Glacier Bay Park Rangers and our Huna Cultural Interpreters on Glacier Bay Day; the highlight of everyone\u2019s cruise! You will create and give compelling presentations on a variety of natural subjects such as wildlife, ecology, geology, glaciology, weather, oceanography, etc.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide guests with expert knowledge about local wildlife in a way that is appealing, accurate, and easily understood. In Alaska &#8211; it\u2019s all about the whales, sea life, bears, and birds!<\/li>\n<li>Help guests spot as much wildlife as possible while also informing them of what they are seeing with compelling stories<\/li>\n<li>Answer guests\u2019 questions about the local natural world and provide excellent customer service<\/li>\n<li>Present a scripted instruction tutorial on binoculars<\/li>\n<li>Lead a variety of PowerPoint-based nature presentations. Talks should range around 25 minutes each with question sessions held directly after the talk<\/li>\n<li>Participate, on occasion, in onboard entertainment unrelated to Naturalist programming, to increase guest interaction<\/li>\n<li>Open and available to answer guest\u2019s questions or comments at any time, even when not hosting an event<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Who you are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Passionate about wildlife and Alaska!<\/li>\n<li>Dedicated and interested in environmental stewardship and education<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated experience in the creation, development, and presentation of fun and engaging nature programming<\/li>\n<li>Confident and comfortable on stage and speaking to large audiences<\/li>\n<li>Space in your life to live and work on a ship for up to 10 weeks at a time<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated interpersonal skills in customer-facing environments<\/li>\n<li>Professional, well-spoken, and mannered. You\u2019re an ambassador of yourself and organization<\/li>\n<li>Impeccable dress sense and appearance<\/li>\n<li>Self-motivated, personable, genuine, approachable, and full of positive energy.
