{"id":45430,"date":"2022-03-09T11:10:35","date_gmt":"2022-03-09T19:10:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/?p=45430"},"modified":"2022-03-09T11:10:35","modified_gmt":"2022-03-09T19:10:35","slug":"job-lead-outdoor-instructor-waya-outdoor-institute-olympia-wa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/job-lead-outdoor-instructor-waya-outdoor-institute-olympia-wa\/","title":{"rendered":"Job: Lead Outdoor Instructor,  WaYa Outdoor Institute (Olympia, WA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><strong>For more information, please follow this link:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservationjobboard.com\/job-listing-lead-outdoor-instructor-olympia-washington-washington\/204454376?utm_source=ongage&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=regular\">https:\/\/www.conservationjobboard.com\/job-listing-lead-outdoor-instructor-olympia-washington-washington\/204454376?utm_source=ongage&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=regular<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Salary-<\/strong> $18.00\/Hr<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teaching South Puget Sound plant identification, natural history, conservation, marine biology, geology, river systems, survival skills, orienteering, nature identification, and indigenous culture.<\/li>\n<li>Providing instruction to outdoor pursuits such as hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, survival, yoga, and art projects (please note &#8211; Kayaking is a routine component of Wa-Ya\u2019s programming)<\/li>\n<li>Curriculum and lesson planning, weekly preparation, and camp clean-up. This includes directing and managing Wa-Ya instructors and interns to ensure the work is accomplished in a safe, complete, and timely manner.<\/li>\n<li>Providing care and quality control of Wa-Ya field equipment, adventure equipment, and teaching supplies including maintaining a well-organized and clean teaching and equipment storage room.<\/li>\n<li>Following camp policies and procedures and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all participants at camp.<\/li>\n<li>Adhering to Wa-Ya COVID protocols, including protocol changes as state requirements evolve.<\/li>\n<li>Providing mentoring and direction to Wa-Ya Summer interns and actively engaging them in daily camp activities, logistics, and lesson delivery.<\/li>\n<li>Driving the Wa-Ya vans (12- and 15-passenger) to teaching sites, including periodic requirements for towing Wa-Ya\u2019s Sea Kayak Trailer.<\/li>\n<li>Engaging with parents and the Camp Director.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First Aid\/CPR certified, Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Valid driver&#8217;s license, clean driving record, and ability to pass a background check.<\/li>\n<li>Must be enrolled in or a graduate of a relevant college natural resource or related degree program.<\/li>\n<li>Available to work 8:00am &#8211; 5:00pm, Monday &#8211; Friday and attend orientation.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in developing and delivering environmental science and\/or outdoor curriculum to kids.<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with local flora and fauna; and STEAM activities.<\/li>\n<li>Experience participating or teaching adventure related activities including, but not limited to kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, and outdoor survival.<\/li>\n<li>Passion, curiosity, patience, and reliability required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":9433,"featured_media":34097,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_s2mail":"yes"},"categories":[15],"tags":[4,28,33,141,13],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/45430"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/9433"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=45430"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/45430\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":45431,"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/45430\/revisions\/45431"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/34097"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=45430"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=45430"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=45430"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
