The position\u2019s primary responsibility is to maintain the system of nature trails year-round, and provide support to the Landscape &amp; Trails Manager during expansion\/building of new trails. The Trails Steward will provide support to the landscape team as needed; to include tasks such as mowing, weed pulling, etc. The position will also assist in providing education to Alderbrook Resort &amp; Spa guests and staff; and should have an enthusiasm for the outdoors, and be comfortable assisting\/directing guests and sharing knowledge of local flora\/fauna.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain existing trail system following the trail maintenance plan (see attached Trail Maintenance Plan)<\/li>\n<li>Independently identify and repair trail tread issues<\/li>\n<li>Remove fallen trees with handsaw or chainsaw<\/li>\n<li>Rake leaves and loose rocks from trail head<\/li>\n<li>Clean signs and keep visibility clear<\/li>\n<li>Trim foliage as needed while keeping an aesthetic trail experience<\/li>\n<li>Remove invasive species<\/li>\n<li>Check trail structures for safety<\/li>\n<li>Clean and scrub boardwalks to prevent slippery surfaces<\/li>\n<li>Remove buildup of debris on structures<\/li>\n<li>Maintain and care for tools including sharpening and lubrication<\/li>\n<li>Note standing hazard trees and report<\/li>\n<li>Keep a trail log book<\/li>\n<li>Regularly communicate with Trail Designer and Chief Engineer<\/li>\n<li>Support Trails Designer during new trail construction and lead crew in his\/her absence<\/li>\n<li>Work with landscape\/grounds crew on general landscaping tasks when trails do not need attention<\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div data-bind=\"html: Job.Requirements\">\n<p><strong>SUCCESS FACTORS\/JOB COMPETENCIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Professional: Report to work when\u00a0scheduled and with a professional and well-groomed appearance.<\/li>\n<li>Planning: Ability to prioritize tasks and duties<\/li>\n<li>Personal: Pleasant personality &#8211; provides eye contact, friendly voice, hospitable by nature; service oriented, fast learner, self-reliant, sensitive, tolerant of stress and able to maintain a positive attitude at all times, shows initiative, judgment, desire &amp; ability to work with a diverse staff, commitment to the Resort and fulfillment of the Alderbrook Promise<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of Work: excellent attention to detail, work standards, basic carpentry skills and knowledgeable with hand tools as well as chainsaws.<\/li>\n<li>Interpersonal: Ability to work\/communicate effectively verbally with multiple operating departments. Able to manage (lead, direct, support) a crew of trail builders. Able to speak and read English<\/li>\n<li>Work habits: Ability to work independently, autonomously and without supervision, while also able to follow written and verbal instructions when necessary. Able to work long hours and overtime if necessary. Experience in the safe operation of a chain saw, basic carpentry skills and FS certification a plus.
