Compensation\/Benefits:<\/span><\/strong>
\u25cf<\/span> $375 per week<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Shared housing and partial board (meals provided during training and while working<\/span>
with Camp Sealth programs)<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Paid training in the facilitation of all activities, lessons, and program areas<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Living on 400 acres of forested property with 1.5 miles of waterfront on the Salish<\/span>
Sea and frequent wildlife sightings.<\/span>

Position Overview<\/span>:<\/span><\/strong>
Camp Sealth is seeking individuals to be a part of our spring outdoor education team who have<\/span>
an enthusiasm for the outdoors, have experience teaching and leading, and are looking for an<\/span>
opportunity to become part of a small, hard-working camp community. Applicants should<\/span>
display creativity, compassion, and self-motivation and be ready to share their love of nature<\/span>
with students!<\/span>
This position encompasses many different aspects of camp life including:<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Leading outdoor education activities<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Kitchen operation and cleaning<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Site maitenance<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Working long hours, nights, and weekends<\/span><\/p>\n


Outdoor Education Instructors facilitate lessons to youth of all ages and backgrounds<\/span><\/strong>
including:<\/span><\/strong>
\u25cf<\/span> Forest and marine ecology<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Outdoor living skills<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Guided hikes<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Archery<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Low ropes course<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Bouldering wall<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Boating<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Arts and crafts<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Team building activities<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Large group games<\/span><\/p>\n


Organizational Overview:<\/span><\/strong>
Camp Sealth is located on Vashon Island, covering 400 wooded acres, including a mile and a half<\/span>
of saltwater beach on the Puget Sound. Camp Sealth has been owned and operated by Camp<\/span>
Fire Central Puget Sound since 1920 and serves public and private schools in the Puget Sound<\/span>
area as well as non-profit organizations. Camp Fire Central Puget Sound offers a variety of co-ed<\/span>
enrichment opportunities that empower youth, staff, and volunteers to discover their sparks,<\/span>
gain confidence, build essential life skills, value the natural world, and be active contributors in <\/span>their communities. Camp Fire Central Puget Sound is an organization that supports diversity and<\/span>
cultural competence, and expects its staff and volunteers to demonstrate respectful interactions<\/span>
with all others in all communications and functions as a representative of the organization. We<\/span>

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:<\/span><\/strong>
\u25cf<\/span> Using camp\u2019s curricula, plan and lead educational, engaging, and innovative lessons in<\/span>
outdoor and environmental education for groups of students.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Create and maintain educational materials for use in classes.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Potentially develop new activities for use with existing curricula.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Help with the maintenance of outdoor education program areas, including the marine<\/span>
touch tanks, worm bin, renewable energy station, and garden.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Help facilitate student and teacher orientations, meals, transitional times, and evening<\/span>
activities including campfire (songs\/storytelling), games, night hikes, etc.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Assist with food preparation, service, storage, and clean-up.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Prepare camp facilities and teach program areas for use by weekend retreat groups.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Assist with additional operational duties as necessary.<\/span>
Essential Experience and Qualifications:<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> High school diploma or equivalency<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Experience working in outdoor education, environmental science, recreation, education,<\/span>
or related field<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Experience working in camp or educational setting with youth<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Enthusiasm for learning and teaching about the natural world<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Ability and desire to teach, inspire and engage people of all backgrounds and abilities<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Good interpersonal communication skills<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Creativity, energy, motivation, and professionalism<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Flexibility with regard to tasks, work hours, changes in program or plans, etc.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Ability to work and live comfortably as a part of a small, on-site community and work<\/span>
effectively as a member of a team.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Ability and willingness to work full days and evenings in an environment that can at<\/span>
times be both emotionally and physically demanding<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Current First Aid and CPR training (can be obtained after job offer is made)<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Washington Food Handler\u2019s Permit (can be obtained after job offer is made)<\/span>
Desired Experience & Qualifications:<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Degree or some college education in environmental science, biology, recreation,<\/span>
education, or related field.<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Experience with any of the outdoor education program areas<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Lifeguard certification and\/or lifeguarding experience<\/span>
\u25cf<\/span> Wilderness First Aid\/Wilderness First Responder certification<\/span><\/p>\n
