&#8211; $5,229.00 Monthly<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Our Columbia River Fisheries Sampling Biologist,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schedules, organizes, coordinates, and leads sampling operations.<\/li>\n<li>Manages spawning ground surveys.<\/li>\n<li>Hires, supervises, and mentors permanent and seasonal staff.<\/li>\n<li>Supervises and monitors sport and commercial sampling crews for proper sampling protocol and data collection procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Oversees and conducts broodstock sampling including collection of coded wire tags (CWT), PBT samples and other biological data.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborates to develop and modify existing data collection and weir operation protocols to identify appropriate survey methodology, set sampling bio-rates, and develop and modify protocols.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinates trap operations and data collections.<\/li>\n<li>Interacts and resolves disputes with local landowners and the general public.<\/li>\n<li>Establish sampling bio-rates, using existing agency statistical and research procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Collects and records information on harvest, prevalence, and distribution of fish, viable salmonid population monitoring data.<\/li>\n<li>Collects designated biological samples, DNA, and CWT\/PIT tag samples.<\/li>\n<li>Monitors quantity and quality of in-season spawning ground survey data collection objectives and provide direction to crew leads.<\/li>\n<li>Safely operates motorized and non-motorized boats.<\/li>\n<li>Provides training on monitoring and observation data collection and sampling protocols to field staff \u2013 mentors and guides field staff in proper sampling technique, accurate data collection, and professional behavior.<\/li>\n<li>Queries various internal and external databases for run reconstruction data components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Work Setting, including hazards: \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Work is performed approximately 60% in an office setting and 40% in the field \u2013 field work can include lifting up to 70 lbs, walking streams up to 5 miles per day in adverse weather conditions, slippery surfaces, climbing up and down steep and slippery stream banks.<\/li>\n<li>Frequent climbing in and out of boats with high gunnels \u2013 operation of rafts, drift boats, and powered boats in various water and weather conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule: \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Typically, work schedule is Monday \u2013 Friday, 8:00 am \u2013 5:00 pm; with occasional weekend \u2013 before and after work hours will be required.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Travel Requirements:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>May occasionally travel to various work sites.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tools and Equipment:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Vehicles and boats including propeller, jet, raft, and drift boats.<\/li>\n<li>Mobile digital data collection devices, tag detectors, and other general sampling equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Power saws and drills, computers, and office machines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customer Interactions:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Frequent interaction during interviews with the sport fishing public and interactions with commercial fish processors.<\/li>\n<li>Communication and scheduling with commercial full fleet participants and WDFW contracted test fishers.<\/li>\n<li>Constant interaction with landowners and the general public to explain agency goals and objectives.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Qualifications<\/p>\n<p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>A Bachelor&#8217;s degree in fisheries, wildlife management, natural resource science, or environmental science.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>AND<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>One (1) year of professional experience in\u00a0fish research, wildlife management or wildlife research or habitat management or habitat research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>OR<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Equivalent education\/experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Master\u2019s degree in the applicable science will substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.<\/li>\n<li>A Ph.D. in the applicable science will substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.<\/li>\n<li>Professional equivalent experience may substitute, year for year, for education requirement if that experience is related to fish habitat assessments, fish passage evaluations, and\/or life history of anadromous fish, particularly freshwater spawning, and rearing habitat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Knowledge and experience with:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Salmonid life history and population monitoring.<\/li>\n<li>Biological sampling methodology for population studies.<\/li>\n<li>Communicating with diverse user groups.<\/li>\n<li>Organizing, scheduling, and implementing fish research and management studies.<\/li>\n<li>Preparing written reports and delivering oral presentations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Certifications\/Licenses:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>A valid driver\u2019s license is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge and experience with:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Columbia River and tributaries fish runs and fisheries.<\/li>\n<li>Escapement and harvest models.<\/li>\n<li>Commercial and sport fishing methods and gear.<\/li>\n<li>Directly supervising field staff.<\/li>\n<li>Generating data summaries and using data processing software like Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and R.<\/li>\n<li>MOCC certification and boating experience, specifically the ability to operate rafts, drift boats, and jet and
