GPC\u2019s important work is accomplished through conservation, stewardship, and community engagement.<\/p>\n<p>The Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC) Land Labs program utilizes local protected\u00a0lands to\u00a0enhance the quality of\u00a0Science,\u00a0Technology,\u00a0Engineering, and\u00a0Math (STEM)\u00a0education local\u00a0schools. Hands-on science projects support the\u00a0vision of the Washington State Environmental and Sustainability Literacy Plan and meet the requirements of Washington State Science and Learning Standards (WSSLS).\u00a0The program engages students directly in big picture environmental concerns affecting their local communities, and\u00a0opens students\u2019 eyes to\u00a0professional opportunities in the\u00a0environmental science\u00a0field. The Land Labs program\u00a0will help\u00a0prepare students from\u00a0low-income families and\u00a0underachieving schools\u00a0for success in post-secondary education and careers in\u00a0STEM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Member Duties:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Education Coordinator VISTA will play an integral role in the design and development of education opportunities for Great Peninsula Conservancy and the Land Labs program. The\u00a0VISTA member will write standards-based curriculum; foster relationships with schools, community members, and stakeholders; train outdoor educators; and\u00a0ground-truth lessons for the Land Labs program. Under the guidance of the Programs Manager, the Education Coordinator VISTA will create education and outreach opportunities that are consistent with GPC\u2019s identity as a community-oriented conservation authority and reflect GPC\u2019s values of engagement, responsiveness, partnership, and respect. The VISTA member\u2019s work will enhance and support GPC\u2019s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Commitment and the important work of making the outdoors a safe and inclusive space for all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Primary Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design\u00a0Land Labs curriculum\u00a0that aligns\u00a0with Washington State Science Learning Standards;<\/li>\n<li>Build sustainable relationships with\u00a0local schools and community partners;<\/li>\n<li>Design and implement educator training workshops;<\/li>\n<li>Organize education and outreach opportunities for GPC members;<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with\u00a0a\u00a0diverse team;<\/li>\n<li>Ground-truth, enhance, and expand the\u00a0Land Labs\u00a0program;<\/li>\n<li>Increase the organizational capacity of Great Peninsula Conservancy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Passion for\u00a0Great Peninsula Conservancy\u2019s\u00a0mission and vision;<\/li>\n<li>Strong\u00a0writing skills;<\/li>\n<li>Strong communication skills;<\/li>\n<li>Strong organizational skills;<\/li>\n<li>High degree of initiative and spirit of service;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: strong understanding of education standards\u00a0and\u00a0curriculum development;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: experience working in outdoor environments;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: experience teaching adult and\/or youth learners;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: valid driver\u2019s license and personal vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>AmeriCorps VISTA:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThis Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC)\u00a0VISTA position is funded by the Corporations for National and Community Service and will serve within the AmeriCorps VISTA program. AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Each VISTA member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. To learn more about the AmeriCorps programs visit americorps.gov.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compensation:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nIn return for their service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a modest living allowance of $1,282\/month, health benefits during their service, and have the option of receiving an AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,195 or post-service stipend of $1,800 after completing their service.
