GPC\u2019s important work is accomplished through conservation, stewardship, and community engagement.<\/p>\n<p>The Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC) Land Labs program utilizes local protected\u00a0lands to\u00a0enhance the quality of\u00a0Science,\u00a0Technology,\u00a0Engineering, and\u00a0Math (STEM)\u00a0education local\u00a0schools. Hands-on science projects support the\u00a0vision of the Washington State Environmental and Sustainability Literacy Plan and meet the requirements of Washington State Science and Learning Standards (WSSLS).\u00a0The program engages students directly in big picture environmental concerns affecting their local communities, and\u00a0open students\u2019 eyes to\u00a0professional opportunities in the\u00a0environmental science\u00a0field. The Land Labs program\u00a0will help\u00a0prepare students from\u00a0low-income families and\u00a0underachieving schools\u00a0for success in post-secondary education and careers in\u00a0STEM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Member Duties:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Community Stewardship Coordinator VISTA will create volunteer stewardship and youth engagement opportunities that support Great Peninsula Conservancy and the Land Labs program. The VISTA member will prepare GPC preserves for Land Labs field experiences; design opportunities for students to participate in community science and stewardship; and assist in ground-truthing Land Labs\u2019 growing library of outdoor education lessons. Under the guidance of the Stewardship Manager, the VISTA member will also assist in improving volunteer management procedures; designing and implementing habitat restoration projects; monitoring preserves and conservation easements; and activating preserves for community science and public enjoyment. The VISTA member\u2019s work will enhance and support GPC\u2019s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Commitment and the important work of making the outdoors a safe and inclusive space for all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Primary Responsibilities:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design, organize, and manage volunteer stewardship activities related to habitat restoration, community science, and youth education;<\/li>\n<li>Develop volunteer management systems that ensure the sustainability of GPC programs;<\/li>\n<li>Promote engagement opportunities through GPC\u2019s social media, website, and e-news;<\/li>\n<li>Build sustainable relationships with non-traditional conservation partners;<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with\u00a0a\u00a0diverse team;<\/li>\n<li>Ground-truth, enhance, and expand the\u00a0Land Labs\u00a0program;<\/li>\n<li>Increase the organizational capacity of Great Peninsula Conservancy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Passion for\u00a0Great Peninsula Conservancy\u2019s\u00a0mission and vision;<\/li>\n<li>Exceptional verbal communication skills;<\/li>\n<li>Strong writing and organizational skills;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment<\/li>\n<li>High degree of initiative and spirit of service;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: experience\u00a0working\u00a0in outdoor environments and using tools;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: experience in volunteer management and recruitment;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: experience in outreach and education;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: valid driver\u2019s license and personal vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>AmeriCorps VISTA:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThis Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC)\u00a0VISTA position is funded by the Corporations for National and Community Service and will serve within the AmeriCorps VISTA program. AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Each VISTA member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. To learn more about the AmeriCorps programs visit americorps.gov.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compensation:\u202f\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nIn return for their service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a modest living\u202fallowance of\u00a0$1,282\/month,\u202fhealth benefits during their service, and have the option of receiving\u202fan\u202fAmeriCorps Education\u202fAward of $6,195\u202for post-service stipend of\u202f$1,800\u202fafter completing their service.
