Wildland Trekking is seeking guides to facilitate day hike, multi day backpack, base camp, lodge based trips to start summer 2022 in the Pacific Northwest.\u00a0 Operating Areas include: Olympic National Park, North Cascades National Park, and Mount Rainier National Park.<\/p>\n

Pay: guide pay varies by state. Wildland pays by the hour in accordance with all state and overtime laws. Entry Level guide pay ranges from $152-$225 per day not including gratuities which can make up a significant part of overall compensation. We are happy to discuss this in more detail with anyone who is selected for an interview.<\/p>\n

Qualifications<\/strong>: Must have significant personal and professional multi-day guiding experience in the backcountry. Multi-day trips range from 3-7 days. Mileage ranges from 5-12 per day. Guides prepare 3 meals a day for guests in the field, teaching outdoor living skills, manage all aspects of the trip, and are responsible for interpretive information, risk management, and guest satisfaction.<\/p>\n

Required Skills<\/strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Efficient and effective organizational skills, strong work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication and able to hike heavy loads 5-12 miles per day over varying terrain. Guides walk all day in beautiful locations carrying a heavy backpack, cook in the backcountry, manage risk in varied environments and weather, provide excellent customer service, interpretive information, and manage social dynamics in mixed groups.<\/li>\n
  • Must be available to attend staff training: June 3-8th, 2022<\/li>\n
  • Must be able to pass a background, and motor vehicle record check.<\/li>\n
  • Must be able to obtain backcountry food handlers certification.<\/li>\n
  • Must provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination, be willing to get a Covid-19 vaccination before start of employment, or qualify for a religious or medical exemption.<\/li>\n
  • Must hold a current WFR certification or EMT or be willing to obtain before training start date<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Preferred Skills:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Training and professional experience in guiding and\/or outdoor education (i.e. NOLS, Outward Bound, degree in Outdoor Education or related field, Wilderness Therapy, other Adventure Travel companies, etc).<\/li>\n
    • Area and interpretive knowledge is a HUGE plus<\/li>\n
    • Leave No Trace certification.<\/li>\n
    • Expertise in at least one of our program locations.<\/li>\n
    • Speak and write English fluently. Fluent in French and\/or German, Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese a plus.<\/li>\n
