Capitol Land Trust is seeking a<\/span> Land Protection Manager<\/span> who is<\/span> highly motivated,<\/span> passionate about<\/span>
local land conservation<\/span>,<\/span> and has a<\/span> strong desire to be a part o<\/span>f ou<\/span>r<\/span> community<\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/span>The Land Protection Manager<\/span> identifies and carries out new conservation easement and fee acquisition <\/span>projects in Capitol Land Trust\u2019s service area through close collaboration with the Conservation Director. <\/span>This position carries out all phas<\/span>es of land acquisition projects from initial outreach and landowner <\/span>negotiation, grant writing and funding procurement, due diligence, drafting legal documents, supervision <\/span>of contractors (attorneys, appraisers, surveyors), through developing baseline repo<\/span>rts and management <\/span>plans. The Land Protection Manager takes part in conservation planning and facilitates important <\/span>communications, negotiations, and relationships, including partnerships in landscape<\/span>–<\/span>scale conservation, <\/span>to further the interests and missio<\/span>n of the organization. <\/span><\/span><\/span>CLT<\/span> has<\/span> a<\/span> culture of positivity, empathy, and gratitude that is shared by its 10 staff and 15 board <\/span>members. Giving staff the tools and support they need to be successful is<\/span> prioritized<\/span> and self<\/span>–<\/span>care is <\/span>encouraged. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES<\/span><\/strong><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Participate in conservation<\/span> visioning, strategic planning and budgeting.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> With the Conservation Director, s<\/span>et land acquisition goals and engage in large<\/span>–<\/span>scale campaigns<\/span>
or programs<\/span>, such as the Chehalis Basin Strategy<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Lead the identification, project development, funding, due dilige<\/span>nce, negotiation<\/span> and clos<\/span>ing of<\/span>
fee title and conservation easement transactions<\/span> to further Capitol Land Trust\u2019s Strategic Plan<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Identify appropriate funding sources, complete grant applications, and manage grant budgets and<\/span>
requirements.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022<\/span><\/span><\/span>Obtain and revie<\/span>w appraisals, environmental assessments, surveys,<\/span> and manage contractors<\/span>
providing such services.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>\u2022<\/span> With legal support, negotiate, draft, and review conservation easements, option agreements,<\/span>
purchase and sale agreements,<\/span> title reports and closing<\/span> documents.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Prepare baseline documentation and management plants in consultation with the Stewardship<\/span>
Coordinators.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Develop and maintain<\/span> strong relationships<\/span> with<\/span> a broad array of stakeholders, including<\/span>
conservation<\/span> organizations, funding partners, tribal<\/span> representatives, landowners<\/span>, government<\/span>
agencies, community groups,<\/span> local businesses<\/span> and private partner<\/span>s, in order<\/span> to identify and<\/span>
implement shared conservation priorities.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> May occasionally manage<\/span> restoration and public<\/span>–<\/span>access infrastructure<\/span> projects.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> May<\/span> supervise, train and\/or mentor conservation staff.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n


QUALIFICATIONS<\/span><\/strong><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Bachelor or graduate degree in conservation, law, biology, ecology, natural resource<\/span>
management, or related field<\/span>; or 4 years of related<\/span> on<\/span>–<\/span>the<\/span>–<\/span>job<\/span> experience,<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> F<\/span>ive years\u2019 experience in<\/span> public or private land conservation<\/span> (preferred)<\/span>, real estate,<\/span> real estate<\/span>
law,<\/span> natural resources management, or a related field<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> A proven track record of successful land acquisition grant writing.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> A<\/span> thorough<\/span> understanding of conservation planning, protection techniques, real estate<\/span> transactions<\/span>
and land use principles.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Excellent communicatio<\/span>n,<\/span> interpersonal<\/span>,<\/span> organizational and ne<\/span>gotiation skills<\/span>, even under<\/span>
stressful circumstances<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Passion for natural resource conservation and a commitment to developing strong working<\/span>
relationships with landowners and<\/span> conservation<\/span> partners<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Ability to work independently and as part of a team to<\/span> implement strategic program goals under<\/span>
pressure<\/span> with<\/span> time constraints<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to<\/span>
details.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Willingness to accept diverse interests and political beliefs while implementi<\/span>ng a non<\/span>–<\/span>
confrontational approach to conservation.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Strong computer competency including GIS<\/span> and the<\/span> Microsoft<\/span> Office Suite<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> K<\/span>nowledge of ecological restoration techniques.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Able to conduct physically demanding outdoor fieldwork in all weather conditions.<\/span><\/span>
