The Southeast Region Natural Areas Program is responsible for managing over 15,000 acres across 15 sites that support rare and sensitive plant species, animals, and high quality native ecosystems. \u00a0For this project, the position may visit 13 recreation sites across eight blocks of DNR managed lands in Southeast Region, in addition to the Natural Areas. \u00a0This intern will assist staff in public outreach, assessing public use and mapping trails on Natural Areas and Recreation Sites. \u00a0This intern may also assist with ecological restoration projects and data collection on occasion. These duties will be performed primarily under the direct supervision of Natural Areas and Recreation Staff.<\/p>\n<p>The internship program is designed to give students educational and hands-on field experience in a variety of duties that will include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Public outreach to visitors at DNR recreation sites (trailhead counts, user surveys)<\/li>\n<li>Inventory recreation trails and site conditions for future planning<\/li>\n<li>Assist with developing public outreach materials<\/li>\n<li>Various restoration activities including planting and invasive species control<\/li>\n<li>Create maps using ArcGIS program and data management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A full-time student (12+ credits\/quarter) majoring in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Recreation<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>or related field and will be returning to school in a following quarter\/semester. OR a graduate student.<\/li>\n<li>Physically able to work alone or as part of a team in undeveloped, remote or back-county landscapes and terrain in all weather conditions.<\/li>\n<li>A valid driver\u2019s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function.
