We believe people make lifelong connections to their watersheds through joyful meaningful work for a common cause.\u00a0We believe everyone can connect and contribute to salmon recovery in their own way no matter their age, skills, interests, background, and ability.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Executive Director is a critical and visible role requiring a strategic and collaborative leader with strong management, operational, financial, and environmental experience. \u00a0The Executive Director will have exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills and be a clear, consistent, and empathetic communicator.\u00a0 Sound Salmon needs someone who excels at inclusive leadership and will support the staff while fostering a healthy organizational culture.\u00a0 Candidates require a minimum of a Bachelor\u2019s degree in business, public administration, environmental education, environmental science, or closely related field plus five years of professional experience in nonprofit management at the executive or director level.\u00a0 Experiences must include demonstrated coaching and staff mentoring skills, as well as strong fiscal management and budgetary leadership.\u00a0 A Master\u2019s degree or Ph.D. in one of the above fields may substitute for two years of the required experience. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Key Attributes:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Executive Director works under the general supervision and direction of the Sound Salmon Solutions Board of Directors. The Executive Director has broad responsibility for the formulation, implementation and execution of the mission and administrative functions of the organization.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Specifically, we are looking for someone with the following key attributes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proven leadership skills and the ability to develop and maintain an effective team working environment amongst staff, partners, community members and stakeholders.<\/li>\n<li>Must be goal driven and possess a high degree of motivation and energy.<\/li>\n<li>Must have a demonstrable passion for Sound Salmon\u2019s Mission.<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to think strategically, implement tactically and be able to see the big picture, while implementing plans effectively in \u201cbite-size morsels\u201d to move the organization forward.<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to understand finances, know how to budget, and have the ability to recognize both financial opportunities and threats.<\/li>\n<li>Needs to be a good listener and be able to actively receive input and listen to other viewpoints and collaborate with others.<\/li>\n<li>Sound judgment is a must along with the ability to evaluate alternatives, deliberate, and arrive at a sound decision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Specific Responsibilities:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Financial &amp; Contract Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure the organization is using its available resources wisely.<\/li>\n<li>Develop an annual budget in consultation with the Finance Manager and Board of Directors.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the SSS Financial Policies &amp; Procedures Manual is up to date and adhered to by staff.<\/li>\n<li>Work with the Finance Manager to ensure all financial standard operating procedures are kept up to date.<\/li>\n<li>Identify areas of risk and work to manage and reduce risk as appropriate. Ensure that SSS has adequate insurance coverage, including general liability, and Directors and Officers insurance.<\/li>\n<li>Review all staff timesheets and approve the final payroll and Accounts Payable documents prior to Finance Manager\u2019s completion.<\/li>\n<li>Review monthly Financial Reports prepared by the Finance Manager.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure matching funds to grants are accurately tracked and reported.<\/li>\n<li>Review Federal 990 tax return after completion by Finance Manager and CPA, and present to Board Treasurer prior to submission.<\/li>\n<li>Review and sign all of Sound Salmon\u2019s contracts (grant, vendor, personal service, construction).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Project and Program Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop and maintain excellent working relationships and collaborative agreements with landowners, stakeholders, partners, community groups, funding entities, agencies, municipalities, and other appropriate organizations.<\/li>\n<li>Support SSS staff in project management including project identification, feasibility, landowner communications, funding, design, permitting, implementation, and monitoring. The successful candidate will ensure that fair, open and competitive procedures are followed for soliciting bids and awarding contracts, and that these processes comply with state and federal requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Oversee and assist staff as needed, in the preparation and submittal of competitive grant applications to local, state and federal agencies, and private foundations to fund projects and programs.<\/li>\n<li>Work with Program Managers to develop, implement, and collaborate on education and outreach initiatives aligned with the organization&#8217;s mission.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that grant applications and program reports are submitted and are accurate and timely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Personnel Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use Sound Salmon\u2019s Strategic Plan as guidance for day-to-day activities of the organization.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure compliance with all provisions of Sound Salmon\u2019s Personnel Policy Guidelines and ensure staff adheres to the WDFW Safety Manual.<\/li>\n<li>Recruit, hire and terminate staff, consultants, and contractors as needed to build an effective team.<\/li>\n<li>Hold regular staff meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Meet with individual staff members on a regular basis to provide guidance, help prioritize work plans, help solve problems and facilitate development of stronger programs and projects.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare and conduct annual performance reviews for all pertinent subordinates and ensure junior staff are reviewed by their direct supervisors.<\/li>\n<li>Work with the Finance Manager to review health insurance policy options annually and choose health insurance for qualifying employees.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the renewal of corporate and directors\u2019 and officers\u2019 insurance is completed annually.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage opportunities for cross training of staff and provide for professional training opportunities in accordance with annual budget.<\/li>\n<li>Directly supervise Program Managers and Finance and Operations Manager.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Fundraising<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead the Board of Directors and Stewardship Manager in developing and implementing an annual Fundraising Strategic Plan.<\/li>\n<li>Effectively secure funding and recruit for contracted fundraising services.<\/li>\n<li>Provide leadership and management in cultivating new private donors.<\/li>\n<li>Work with Stewardship Manager on fundraising events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Board Support<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with the SSS\u2019s Board to help the organization meet its mission, goals, and objectives.<\/li>\n<li>Attend and facilitate monthly board meetings and report key activities and accomplishments.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in strategic planning efforts, including updating the plan every 3 years and reviewing accomplishments annually.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure all policies are kept up to date and required signatures are on file to maintain non-profit status compliance.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with Board recruitment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Perform other tasks as directed by the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regional Fisheries Enhancement Group (RFEG) program wide activities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Representation of SSS in local, regional, and statewide forums.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure SSS is represented in lead entity and regional organization\u2019s technical and citizen committees, and other appropriate forums.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the Regional Fisheries Coalition (RFC) by attending quarterly (and mid-quarter) meetings and various conference calls.<\/li>\n<li>Attend meetings with WDFW staff as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in RFC initiatives as appropriate, to ensure the RFC has the capacity to represent the needs of RFEGs statewide.<\/li>\n<li>Attend meetings with state legislators and their staff, and other elected officials as needed, to provide education about SSS our Mission and projects and the
