If so, then apply to become a Fish &amp; Wildlife Biologist!<\/p>\n<p>As our Fish &amp; Wildlife Biologist, you will provide leadership for steelhead creel surveys on the North Coast of the Olympic Peninsula. You\u2019ll be responsible for timely data management, summarization, analysis, and report writing for statistical creel surveys. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>WDFW\u2019s mission and goals are to preserve and protect fish and wildlife while providing sustainable recreational opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind,\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Picture yourself\u00a0participating in sampling and field studies that collect biological data in support of fisheries management.<\/p>\n<p>This is an opportunity\u00a0to collaboratively lead a team, set goals, develop strategies, and ensure the program performance objectives are met.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The optimal candidate has applied experience in fish and wildlife management, principles, and procedures.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The best suited candidate has strong work ethic, the ability to take initiative, work independently, and has excellent inter-personal communication and relationship skills.<\/p>\n<p>We are seeking a candidate that\u00a0will work hard to serve WDFW staff, agency partners, and the public.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our Fish &amp; Wildlife Biologist 1,\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Implements creel survey study designs and provides data management and project reporting \u2013 ensures that study data collected adhere to study design and the highest standards of scientific integrity.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Participates in sampling and field data collection.<\/li>\n<li>Schedules and directs non-permanent field staff.<\/li>\n<li>Edits and formats reports for annual publications for the Agency.<\/li>\n<li>Provides accurate data to the lead biologist for updating annual forecasting and harvest management models.<\/li>\n<li>Participates in creel surveys by interviewing anglers, collecting biological samples, and daily summaries.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinates with Agency, Tribal and other government biologists and the public for data collection or sharing.<\/li>\n<li>Supervises, schedules, and leads subordinate staff in the collection and compilation of creel data \u2013 schedules and assigns tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis depending on project deadlines and environmental factors.<\/li>\n<li>Updates lead biologist weekly on progress and personnel issues.<\/li>\n<li>Assists the lead biologist as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Work Setting, including hazards: \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work is performed in a variety of popular sport fishing boat launch sites and access areas along the rivers \u2013 fieldwork is often done in inclement weather.<\/li>\n<li>Contact with anglers requires short hikes to fishing areas or driving to creel locations via state, federal, and county roads, as well as local travel along streams on private (logging) roads throughout the district using a state vehicle. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Schedule: \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Typically, work schedule is 40 hours per week, extra hours may be needed to meet agency goals \u2013 must work weekends and three weekdays \u2013 work days and hours may change due to weather and river conditions. \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>A flexible hourly and daily work schedule is necessary to perform the assigned tasks including early mornings and late nights \u2013 holidays may be included as potential workdays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Travel Requirements:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Considerable driving is required via state, federal, and county roads, as well as local travel on private (logging) roads.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tools and Equipment:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Standard office furniture and equipment (e.g., desk, filing cabinet, computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, etc.).
