Under the direction of AGFC staff and the Habitat Specialist Coordinator, incumbents will conduct habitat management work on cooperating private land as well as targeted public lands within designated priority geographies within Arkansas as part of the state\u2019s Quail management program. \u00a0These positions are full-time, permanent employees of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever and will receive daily leadership from AGFC and QF staff. These positions will be located at the AGFC Russellville Regional Office.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Duties<\/u><\/strong>: The incumbents will conduct wildlife habitat management practices throughout multiple priority areas. Major responsibilities include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Implementing habitat management work on cooperating private landowners as well as public lands that includes but is not limited to edge feathering, herbicide application, prescribed burning, native grass\/forb establishment, shrubby cover establishment, and timber stand improvement (hack and squirt or chainsaw method)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Procuring supplies and equipment\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Providing public information<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Participating in scientific field studies and surveys\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Attending\/Assisting with prescribed fire and other habitat management technique trainings<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Performs other related duties as assigned<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Job may require odd hours and travel\/time away from home<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities<\/u><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0A basic understanding of environmental, agricultural, and\/or natural resource science. \u00a0Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the partners. \u00a0Preference will be given to candidates that possess a bachelor\u2019s degree with an emphasis in wildlife management.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Experience conducting upland habitat management, prescribed burning, operating tractors and agricultural implements (disking, mowing, planting food plots, etc.), identification and control of noxious weeds and other undesired vegetation<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Safe transportation\/hauling of equipment<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and partner agencies<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Ability to work independently with little supervision<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Knowledge of wildlife ecology, grassland management, and\/or forest management including the ability to utilize various habitat management equipment and tools in the development of wildlife habitat<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Excellent verbal\/written communication and organizational skills<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Valid driver\u2019s license required<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Applicant may be required to obtain a CDL, private pesticide applicators license and prescribed fire training<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities<\/u><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0The following courses are preferred to have already been completed by applicant:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Course Title<\/u>\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<u>Course Number<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Introduction to ICS\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0I-100<\/p>\n<p>Human Factors in Wildland Fire Service\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0L-180<\/p>\n<p>Firefighter Training\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0S-130<\/p>\n<p>Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0S-190<\/p>\n<p>NIMS: An Introduction\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0IS-700<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0One year of experience conducting prescribed burns and\/or timber stand improvement using chainsaws or hack and squirt methods<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0One year of experience applying herbicides to control undesirable species<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0One year of experience operating tractors, discs, and planting equipment<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Training and Experience Guideline:<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0Any combination of training and\/or experience that will enable the applicant to possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. \u00a0One year of work experience in a wildlife management or agricultural related job. \u00a0Applicants who possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Management or closely related natural resources field and\/or related field experience is preferred.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Salary:<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0Starting range of $31,000-$35,600 depending upon qualifications and experience, plus benefits<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Application Requirements<\/u><\/strong>: Please\u00a0<u><em>combine your cover letter, resume and 3 references<\/em><\/u>\u00a0into 1 Microsoft Word document or Adobe Acrobat PDF file before clicking on the blue\u00a0<strong>APPLY<\/strong>\u00a0icon at the bottom or upper right corner.
