Length:<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>3 Months \u2013 September 1, 2021 \u2013 November 30, 2021\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong><em>Our Science Technician 2,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assists in data entry, Quality Assurance\/Quality Control of data, and reconciliation\/summarization of data.<\/li>\n<li>Conducts fall Chinook spawning ground and carcass surveys.<\/li>\n<li>Assists\u00a0in fall Chinook spawning and sorting at Lyons Ferry Hatchery.<\/li>\n<li>Assists other Snake River Lab Biologist\/technicians as needed with Tucannon Spring Chinook spawning and spawning ground surveys.<\/li>\n<li>Enters and proofs data and helps Snake River Lab Biologists and Technicians.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong>\u00a0\n<ol>\n<li>This position is a combination of both office and field duties.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Safety hazards include slippery conditions in\/near streams, loud noises, extreme heat and cold, bites or stings from insects or snakes, and salmon carcasses in various states of decay with very strong odors.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Monday through Friday, 40 hours\/week, and may require some work outside the normal work hours, some weekends and nights, and some holidays when fieldwork and\/or other projects require it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Travel Requirements:<\/strong>\u00a0\n<ol>\n<li>Daily travel is expected for completing field surveys and assisting in spawning activities at Lyons ferry or Tucannon River.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tools and Equipment:<\/strong>\u00a0\n<ol>\n<li>Vehicles, basic hand tools, knives, CWT wand, PIT tag transceivers, scales, microscope, and handheld GPS units.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customer Interactions:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Some private landowner contacts are required to complete spawning ground surveys.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Answering questions from visitors and general public\u2019s curiosity during field activities, fielding calls from the public, and directing them to the appropriate contacts.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Qualifications<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>High School Diploma or GED including one year of high school science.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>AND<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Two years of experience as a Scientific Technician 1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>OR<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Two years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, chemist, zoologist, or another closely allied field.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Please Note:\u00a0<\/strong>College course work involving major study in biology, zoology, fisheries, chemistry, natural sciences, or closely allied field will substitute, year for year, for experience, provided the course work includes at least six (6) semester or nine (9) quarter hours of natural science
