It&#8217;s only the 7th UMD EJ Symposium event, but 2021 marks CEEJH&#8217;s 10th anniversary of community-based EJ work in the DMV.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"g-group l-mar-bot-6 l-sm-mar-bot-4\">\n<div class=\"structured-content g-cell g-cell-10-12 g-cell-md-1-1\">\n<h2 class=\"text-body-large hide-small\">About this event<\/h2>\n<div class=\"has-user-generated-content\" data-automation=\"about-this-event-sc\">\n<div class=\"structured-content-rich-text structured-content__module l-align-left l-mar-vert-6 l-sm-mar-vert-4 text-body-medium\">\n<p>The 7th UMD Symposium on Environmental Justice &amp; Health Disparities (#UMDejsymposium2021) will convene numerous community members, nonprofit organizers, and researchers for an in-depth examination of ongoing environmental justice and health disparity issues affecting the DC-Maryland-Virginia region.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s symposium will reprise many of the hallmark topics discussed in previous years (e.g., food sovereignty, climate justice, community organizing, energy equity, law and policy, and others) in addition to new focuses on Gender and Reproductive Justice, Indigenous Human Rights, Health Disparities in the Prison System, and more! Find more information on the CEEJH website: https:\/\/www.ceejh.center.<\/p>\n<p>Click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/whova.com\/portal\/webapp\/ej_202103\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>\u00a0to view the agenda, and access the event the day of symposium!<\/p>\n<h2>We are thrilled to have\u00a0<em>Dr. Cecilia Martinez<\/em>\u00a0provide the 10th Annual CEEJH Lecture at this year&#8217;s Symposium.<\/h2>\n<p>Dr. Cecilia Martinez is the Senior Director for Environmental Justice (EJ) at the Council for Environmental Quality (CEQ). In this role, she will be facilitating the coordination of the whole-of-government EJ agenda of the Biden administration. Previously she was the Executive Director of the Center for Earth, Energy and Democracy. \u00a0Dr. Martinez also previously held positions as Associate Research Professor in the College of Earth, Ocean and Environment at the University of Delaware. \u00a0She has led a variety of projects to address sustainable development at the local, state and federal level. Her work focuses on the development of energy and environmental strategies that promote equitable and sustainable policies.
