Friends is looking for someone interested in advocacy and conservation, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills, and sustained enthusiasm for working with the public. The position requires regular interaction with co-workers, local partners, activists, volunteers, donors, and Gorge residents. The Conservation Organizer does not supervise any staff, but will routinely direct activists and volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>ACTIVITIES<br \/>\u2022 Build and maintain a list of activists and communicate with them regularly via phone, email, text, and in-person communications<br \/>\u2022 Manage online advocacy efforts in the Columbia River Gorge<br \/>\u2022 Assist in drafting action alerts, fact sheets, organizing materials, and newsletter articles<br \/>\u2022 Create a leadership network to assist in organizing activities<br \/>\u2022 Conduct outreach to diverse communities, businesses, civic groups, students and non-profit organizations<br \/>\u2022 Represent Friends in its local coalition efforts<br \/>\u2022 Recruit and train activists to testify at public hearings, write comment letters, and letters to the editors<br \/>\u2022 Hold periodic meetings to update activists on conservation efforts<br \/>\u2022 Work with the Portland conservation organizer and conservation director to coordinate outreach and organizing efforts<br \/>\u2022 Attend and represent Friends in local government meetings with the assistance of the conservation director<br \/>\u2022 Build and maintain strong relationships with Friends\u2019 allies<br \/>\u2022 Serve as local media spokesperson as needed<br \/>\u2022 Assist the conservation director in grassroots and grass tops lobbying efforts<br \/>\u2022 Organize public events, outreach activities, and tabling opportunities for current and new individuals or groups seeking a broad diversity of supporters<\/p>\n<p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS<br \/>\u2022 2-4 years of experience in effective organizing, grassroots and grass tops advocacy<br \/>\u2022 Experience working with diverse communities<br \/>\u2022 Excellent written and oral communication skills<br \/>\u2022 Experience in working with member\/activist databases and alert networks<br \/>\u2022 Some familiarity with land-use planning, environmental law, state and federal legislative processes and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area<br \/>\u2022 Strong organizational and time-management skills<br \/>\u2022 Ability to lift boxes and equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.<br \/>\u2022 Ability to work some non-standard hours including nights and weekends<\/p>\n<p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS<br \/>\u2022 College degree or equivalent experience<br \/>\u2022 Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites and Google Suite<br \/>\u2022 Experience with Salesforce, MailChimp, and Phone2Action<\/p>\n<p>COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS<br \/>Starting pay is $19.00 &#8211; $22.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Other hours would include flexing schedule to include earlier morning, evening, or weekend work for events, tabling, or meetings.
