https:\/\/www.conservationjobboard.com\/job-listing-assistant-fish-passage-biologist-hanover-virginia\/2520543872<\/a><\/p>\nThis position is responsible for providing fish passage and habitat connectivity for aquatic resources in inland waters of the Commonwealth; and, otherwise manage Virginia\u2019s inland fish to maintain optimum populations of all aquatic species to serve the needs of the Commonwealth and to provide opportunity for all to enjoy wildlife, inland fish, boating and fishing. To restore and enhance aquatic wildlife and wildlife habitat necessary to ensure the quality of inland and migratory fishery resources as well as maintain and improve the economic and ecological benefits to the Commonwealth that are associated with these resources.<\/p>\n
Minimum Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\nWorking knowledge of fisheries sampling techniques and fisheries practices and principles with focus on: diadromous species life histories, aquatic organism passage, habitat restoration, and age and growth analysis.\u00a0
Ability to properly operate and maintain small watercraft, outboard motors and trailers, and specialized fisheries equipment.\u00a0
Ability to effectively organize, type, write and present information. Working knowledge of Word, Access, Excel and Power Point.\u00a0
Knowledge of state fishing regulations and basic angling techniques.\u00a0
Competency in various trade skills including electrical wiring, outboard motors, small engine repair and carpentry.\u00a0
Ability to work independently, to adapt to changing situations and conditions, to work outdoors in various weather conditions, to lift moderate to heavy loads, to carry moderate loads over rough terrain, to read detailed maps and other instructional information, and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.\u00a0
Ability to obtain Boater Safety certification within the first 6 months of employment.\u00a0
High School Diploma,\u00a0GED\u00a0or equivalent.\u00a0
Must possess, or be eligible for a valid Virginia driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n
Preferred Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\nKnowledge of state purchasing procedures. \u00a0
Bachelor\u2019s degree in Aquaculture, Biological Sciences or a related field with a strong academic background in aquatic wildlife or fisheries biology. \u00a0
Certification as a fisheries\/aquatic biologist by the American Fisheries, Wildlife, or other Society, is preferred.\u00a0
Boater Safety certification preferred.\u00a0<\/p>\n
