The Land Management Specialist is responsible for leading work on SHADOW\u2019s restoration projects and the general maintenance\/land management work around the Nature Preserve grounds. This includes leading volunteer groups in the field, maintaining SHADOW\u2019s trail system, noxious weed removal, and facilities maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>The ideal candidate is driven, well-organized and self-sufficient, with high emotional intelligence and a passion for environmental conservation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pay, Benefits, Schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Benefits:<\/strong>\u00a0Part-time employees receive paid sick leave and accrue paid time off.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pay Rate:<\/strong>\u00a020-25 hours\/week; $20.00 \u2013 $24.00\/hour DOE<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\u00a0Two weekdays a week &amp; must be available to work most Saturdays; some alternative days, nights, and Sundays may be required with advanced notice. SHADOW\u2019s Office is open Tuesday \u2013 Saturday.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work Location:<\/strong>\u00a0SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve 21656 184th Ave SE Renton WA 98058<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Primary Roles &amp; Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Maintenance &amp; Grounds Management (60%)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure all facilities, trails, signage, parking areas, equipment, and tools are maintained, clean, and in good working condition.<\/li>\n<li>Prioritize, track &amp; manage noxious weeds throughout the Nature Preserve grounds.<\/li>\n<li>Monitor &amp; assess SHADOW\u2019s maintenance needs; work with SHADOW\u2019s Executive Director and Board of Directors to prioritize and accomplish large maintenance tasks and special projects.<\/li>\n<li>Host Saturday Work Parties with volunteer groups; Lead volunteers in accomplishing maintenance, restoration, and land management projects; incorporate stewardship education into volunteer roles and work parties.<\/li>\n<li>Work, as assigned, with Executive Director in developing long-term land management plans for SHADOW\u2019s parcels to help progress SHADOW towards Land Trust Alliance accreditation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Restoration Projects (20%)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oversee SHADOW\u2019s current restoration projects which includes completing all monitoring requirements, overseeing contractors, coordinating with partners &amp; landowners, working with volunteers&amp; updating SHADOW\u2019s leadership on restoration project status.<\/li>\n<li>Work with Executive Director, partners, &amp; SHADOW\u2019s Board of Directors to identify and prioritize restoration needs and future projects.<\/li>\n<li>Work with and develop relationships with partner organizations to progress SHADOW\u2019s restoration and land management projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Volunteer Management, Office Duties, &amp; Grants (10%)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Help recruit and oversee all restoration &amp; maintenance volunteers.<\/li>\n<li>Work with SHADOW\u2019s Executive Director to identify and seek grant funding for the restoration, maintenance, &amp; land management programs and projects.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure proper data collection and entry of all restoration &amp; maintenance volunteer hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Community Engagement &amp; Outreach (10%)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate in the execution of SHADOW\u2019s major events; staff all major events; maintain and prepare grounds for events at SHADOW including the Annual Frog Frolic &amp; Summer Fundraiser.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to SHADOW\u2019s monthly newsletter and social media content as assigned.<\/li>\n<li>Staff outreach &amp; seasonal events, guided tours, &amp; stewardship related classes as assigned.<\/li>\n<li>Work with the Executive Director and Outreach Lead to promote Saturday Work Parties, stewardship opportunities, and other related volunteer opportunities at SHADOW.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two years of college-level coursework in environmental science, forestry, &amp;\/or land conservation.\u00a04-Year University degree in a relevant major preferred.<\/li>\n<li>1\u20132 years of\u00a0relevant experience in land management, noxious weed management, restoration, or another relevant field.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of Western Washington\u2019s native plants, common noxious weeds, and\/or restoration techniques is highly desired.<\/li>\n<li>Strong verbal and written communications skills.<\/li>\n<li>Self-motivated, self-starter<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strong time management skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage large projects and volunteer groups.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
