Job Summary:<\/strong>
Biological field technician will collect fatality monitoring data at wind farm projects near\u00a0Lafayette, IN.<\/p>\nResponsibilities include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Searching for bird and bat fatalities beneath operating wind turbines<\/li>\n
- Participate in carcass persistence and searcher efficiency trials<\/li>\n
- Walking for several hours every day, sometimes in inclement conditions, followed by\u00a0nightly\u00a0data review and electronic uploads<\/li>\n
- Workload may be around 20 hours per week, depending on the project, and may\u00a0require\u00a0weekend work; currently looking for a technician for either the spring (April 1 \u2013 May 15)\u00a0or fall\u00a0field seasons (Aug 1 \u2013 Oct 15); potential for summer work as well<\/li>\n
- Job duties require the use of compass, global positioning system devices, range finders,\u00a0digital\u00a0cameras or tablets, as well as the ability to maintain the equipment<\/li>\n
- Training will be provided for all survey efforts and job related activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Compensation:\u00a0<\/strong>$15.00-$17.00\/hour

Additional details: T<\/strong>he technician must have reliable transportation to and from the work site and\u00a0will\u00a0be reimbursed mileage at the current federal standard rate. GPS unit, compass, camera, and\u00a0range\u00a0finder will be provided by WEST, however, technician must be equipped with and provide own\u00a0suitable\u00a0safety-toed footwear (rugged hiking boots, etc.), clothing and binoculars (if necessary).<\/p>\nThis is a general description of the functions for this position and is not inclusive of the duties which may be associated with this position.<\/p>\n
Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or an\u00a0equivalent\u00a0degree preferred but NOT required; applications from undergraduates and other\u00a0enthusiastic\u00a0workers with relevant job experience are welcome.<\/li>\n
- Must live within a 1 hour drive of Chalmers, Indiana<\/li>\n
- Precise and thorough data collection is essential<\/li>\n
- Able to work independently or as part of a team, and interact positively with project\u00a0manager,\u00a0field supervisor, landowners, clients, and other technicians<\/li>\n
- Employee must be able to appear for work on time<\/li>\n
- Maintain focus for long periods of time<\/li>\n
- Follow instructions from project managers and field supervisors<\/li>\n
- Maintain positive attitude and accept guidance and constructive criticism\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Follow all WEST safety protocols<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Physical Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Applicants must be in good physical condition, as surveys will be conducted in locations\u00a0where\u00a0temperatures and conditions can be extreme. Must be tolerant of biting or stinging\u00a0insects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment background check,\u00a0drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets WEST\u2019s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf\u00a0of the company.
