Evidence of research experience organizing and supporting marine and\/or fisheries field-based research activities. Familiarity working with data and database management.<\/p>\n<p><b>Preferred Qualifications:\u00a0<\/b><br \/>Bachelor\u2019s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in biology, fisheries, ecology, marine sciences, oceanography or related field.<b>\u00a0<\/b>Experience working with acoustic telemetry data. Experience acoustically tagging shark and finfish species. Experience working on research vessels. Experience with a range of sampling gear including otter trawls, beam trawls, long-lines and shark gear. Experience presenting and communicating scientific results.<\/p>\n<p><b>Brief Description of Duties:\u00a0<\/b><br \/>The Research Support Specialist will assist the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/you.stonybrook.edu\/frisk\/\">Principal Investigator<\/a>\u00a0in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, by providing support to the South Fork Export Cable (SFEC) project, with responsibilities that include the following:<\/p>\n<p>Onshore Duties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Purchase supplies, build gear systems and pre-cruise organizing<\/li>\n<li>Under supervision of Principal Investigator, maintain a research database; assist with preparation of reports to sponsors; and develop manuscripts for scientific journal publication.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Assist graduate and undergraduate students working in the laboratory in support of processing biological samples and analytical analyses.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Assist with onshore work for other ongoing projects conducted by the laboratory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At Sea Duties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Primarily support the South Fork Export Cable (SFEC) project that maintains a large nearshore ocean telemetry network and will be expanded.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Maintain South Fork Wind Acoustic Array<\/li>\n<li>Acoustically tag Atlantic sturgeon, winter flounder, black seabass, and other species.<\/li>\n<li>Lead cruises to support biological sampling and mooring deployment.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with field work for other ongoing projects conducted by the laboratory.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Other duties as assigned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Special Notes:<\/b><br \/>The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation.
