The summer instructors have the responsibility to provide quality instruction and leadership during a range of summer camp activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nDuties & Responsibilities<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\nPrimary Responsibilities\/Essential Functions:<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n- Ensure all programs are conducted in accordance with the policies set by CIMI, emphasizing safety.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Development of necessary educational and instructional background to ensure quality of the program.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Teach campers in marine labs as well as taking them kayaking and snorkeling according to all safety guidelines.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Assume duties of Dive Locker Coordinator when assigned.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Participate in training week scheduled and instructed by the Program Director.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Drive program boats when assigned for mail runs and town runs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Greet incoming groups to facility.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Work evening duties as required to meet the group\u2019s needs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Generate ongoing enthusiasm and participation in student activities.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Other duties assigned by the Program Director.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
Other Responsibilities\/Supportive Functions:<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n- Must be able to communicate and work with the cabin groups by instructing<\/span><\/li>\n
- \u00a0Hikes, water activities, at archery, and on the high ropes elements.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Ability to snorkel 1\/2 mile in the ocean, leading 15 campers for up to 2 hours.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Hike up to 2 miles along dirt trails including steep inclines.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Lift kayaks and carry to water with campers.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Drive chase boat during kayaking once trained and cleared.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Greet incoming groups at pier and help move luggage.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 lbs. when necessary.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Be able to respond to emergency situations by providing the leadership necessary to enact the Emergency Procedure Plan.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Ability to observe student and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

Minimum Qualifications<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n- Must be at least 21 years old.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Bachelor\u2019s degree or equivalent<\/span><\/li>\n
- Prior teaching experience or equivalent (in outdoor science programs, or in youth summer camps, scouts programs or recreational programs for youth preferred.)<\/span><\/li>\n
- Snorkeling experience necessary.\u00a0 SCUBA certification is not necessary.\u00a0 Must be a strong swimmer.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Physically fit in order to snorkel, kayak, and hike for extended periods.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Must be able to pass the Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding Course including first aid and CPR.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Have a desire to live and work in a remote camp community.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Have a desire to work with children and the ability to supervise them.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activities.<\/span><\/li>\n
