We believe by having a collective voice \u2014 one that is inclusive of BIPOC communities and those who are often missing from important conversations. We advocate for equitable educational policies for our children, families, and the SE Seattle community.<\/p>\n<p>SESEC\u2019s work is divided into two broad categories: 1) advocacy\/policy\/systems change, and 2) building community voices. This position will support both categories by bringing expertise and experience in community engagement and communications.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>SUMMARY OF POSITION<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The position will report to the Executive Director. Until SESEC resumes normal office hours, this position will work remotely, via Zoom, and with other technology supports, and is expected to begin immediately upon hire. The position provides critical interim support on a broad range of tasks and activities with the primary focus on SESEC\u2019s 2021 community outreach and communications strategies.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0<em>is a\u00a0<\/em><strong><em><u>temporary, position funded for 12 months<\/u><\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0with the possibility of becoming a permanent staff<\/em>\u00a0subject to funding and organizational needs. A key aspect of this position will be to help formulate the position\u2019s roles and responsibilities and developing recommendations for the future position.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>RESPONSIBILITIES\/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Key responsibilities include:<\/p>\n<p>COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a point of contact for SESEC programs<\/li>\n<li>Conduct outreach with schools, community non-profits, and parents\/guardians<\/li>\n<li>Manage program logistics and community relationship building, especially with Black and Indigenous communities<\/li>\n<li>Assist program managers with inter- and intra-cohort and intra- and inter-program activities to help weave a strong network for ongoing engagement and advocacy activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>COMMUNICATIONS<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coordinate with staff on content and managing SESEC\u2019s website, Facebook, coordinate and write newsletter content to SESEC\u2019s coalition members and allies<\/li>\n<li>Manage SESEC\u2019s brand development<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate and fulfill material that solidifies SESEC\u2019s positive image in the community.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with WordPress, social media, and other forms of communication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>GENERAL<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support SESEC Executive Director with ad hoc tasks, projects, and assignments.<\/li>\n<li>Support SESEC\u2019s fiscal sponsorees with administrative support as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Strives for racially equitable outcomes; takes responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming community by making room for people of color, trans and gender-non-conforming folks, and other populations who routinely encounter systemic oppressions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum three years of experience working on education, early childhood, or human service in Seattle preferred but open to other state\/federal experience.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience and ability to build trusting relationships with schools, nonprofits, BIPOC community and immigrant and refugee communities, school leaders, and community members.<\/li>\n<li>Able to work independently with limited direct supervision and management.<\/li>\n<li>Able to attend in person (when safe\/post-COVID) \u2013 family and community meetings. This may include evenings and weekends. Remote access to the meetings is appropriate during COVID-19.<\/li>\n<li>Able to provide clear, concise writing for general audiences. Skill and experience in writing and editing advocacy reports, one-pagers, background documents, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Able to work under deadlines and pay attention to details.<\/li>\n<li>Flexible and enjoy helping to develop systems and structures and tolerate growth and change.<\/li>\n<li>Fast learner with demonstrated ability to rapidly assess and become conversant in new policy topics.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to understand and retain information in confidence, in highly sensitive political and community environments.<\/li>\n<li>We work in an open concept office and will be expected to manage your time and able to focus when needed and collaborate.<\/li>\n<li>Committed to the mission of equity, cultivating a coalition, building the capacity of schools and community-based organizations.<\/li>\n<li>Transportation to and from meetings including off-site meetings. SESEC will reimburse for reasonable business travel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The position will report to the Executive Director. Until SESEC resumes normal office hours (due to COVID19 precautions), this position will work remotely. This is NOT a remote position \u2013 once we return to an in-person office it is expected the employee work in the office during core office hours. There is some flexibility in working from home with pre-approval and at the discretion of the supervisor.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>HOURS, RATE, &amp; BENEFITS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Annual Full Time Rate: $55,000-60,000<\/p>\n<p>Status, 32- 40 hours per week<\/p>\n<p>FLSA Status: Exempt<\/p>\n<p><strong>Priority Review Date: Friday, 23 July, 4.00 p.m., open until filled<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Benefits: Fully paid medical and dental; employees are responsible for costs for spouse and\/or dependents.
