We\u2019ll be developing educational signage to realize our goal of this site becoming an ongoing opportunity for teaching residents about protecting water &amp; habitat through water-wise landscaping principles. In advance of this, we will be weeding and planting groundcover in our previous planting sites.<\/p>\n<p>Register at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nativeplantsalvage.org\/planting-at-thurston-county-corrections\">https:\/\/www.nativeplantsalvage.org\/planting-at-thurston-county-corrections<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>To <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/58d94ac2f5e231abb45f85c5\/t\/5f88c8f579a0e83b1162e8ed\/1602799868453\/FALL+2020+-+WSU+Thurston+Co-NPSF+over-arching+Covid-19+safety+guidelines.pdf\">prevent Covid transmission<\/a> &amp; keep everyone safe, events will be limited to 15 (or fewer) per shift.<\/h4>\n<p>So far we have planted <strong>over 4,500 shrubs<\/strong>, ornamental <strong>grasses<\/strong>, and <strong>ground covers<\/strong> at the Thurston County\u2019s Corrections Facility. This <strong>prevents polluted runoff<\/strong> from going directly to the storm-drains, then into salmon-bearing Percival Creek. Our partners in this work are Thurston County\u2019s Stream Team Program.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to preventing pollution, this site is slated to become a demonstration landscape for water-wise planting!<\/p>\n<p>Learn about native and water-wise species and their ability to protect local waterways, while establishing new layered landscapes that will save water, provide habitat for birds, mammals and beneficial insects, and improve aesthetics! \u00a0A great opportunity to learn about good plant options while also serving your community! Gloves, tools and training provided. <strong>Masks provided if volunteers don\u2019t have their own. <\/strong>In advance of participating, <strong>volunteers must read and adhere to our extensive Covid-safe protocols<\/strong>.
