Hobe Sound NWR<\/strong>\u00a0is seeking\u00a0<strong>1 Individual<\/strong>\u00a0to work directly with the management and biology staff and assist with wildlife refuge projects and operations.<\/p>\n<p>These opportunities are intended for enthusiastic individuals with a background in natural resources who possess an interest in gaining experience in the field of biology, visitor services, maintenance and management.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start Date:<\/strong>\u00a0July 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>End Date:<\/strong>\u00a027 weeks later<\/p>\n<p>**27-week commitment required**<\/p>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0Nathaniel P. All utilities are included. Housing is a duplex unit with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a maximum capacity of 3 people. Intern may have to share a bedroom and bathroom with one other individual. Housing is within walking distance to the main office.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scheduling:<\/strong>\u00a0Ace Member is expected to work approximately 40 hours a week. Schedule is Monday through Friday normal business hours. Intern will be expected to work\u00a0<u>1-2 Saturdays per month<\/u>\u00a0(in exchange for a weekday to maintain ~40 hours per week).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Description:<\/strong>\u00a0The internship position at the Nathaniel P. Reed Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge) will provide a well-rounded experience in the natural resource field. The intern will work as part of a small team to help manage the Refuge completing such tasks as biological surveys, routine maintenance, public programs, and administrative tasks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project Background and Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate in habitat management and monitoring including invasive plant control and mapping, mechanical treatment of woody vegetation, and vegetation surveys<\/li>\n<li>Organize and conduct monthly public beach cleanups<\/li>\n<li>Maintain accurate and detailed field records and enter data promptly and accurately<\/li>\n<li>Assist with public outreach including visitor contact and environmental education<\/li>\n<li>Assist with general facilities and grounds maintenance to include trail clearing<\/li>\n<li>Manage Refuge social media accounts under the supervision of the Refuge Manager<\/li>\n<li>Assist with captive animal care<\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong>\u00a0Applicants for the position must hold or be pursuing a minimum of a bachelor&#8217;s degree and\/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, and\/or Forestry.<\/p>\n<p><em>Required:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Citizen or Permanent Resident<\/li>\n<li>Must be 18-35 years of age (Interns must be 21-35 to apply for any ACE position that requires or anticipates operation of agency or ACE vehicles for duties.)<\/li>\n<li>A valid driver&#8217;s license and a clean driving record are required (documentation to be provided upon request)<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work alone and in a group<\/li>\n<li>Proficient in English<\/li>\n<li>Ability to undergo a federal criminal background check is required<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of natural sciences<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work in very hot, humid, and buggy conditions<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to work varying hours including weekends<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Preferred:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of USFWS mission<\/li>\n<li>Experience, professional or personal, with hand tools used for landscape and trail maintenance<\/li>\n<li>Experience conducting invasive plant management<\/li>\n<li>Basic GPS and GIS skills<\/li>\n<li>Basic plant identification skills<\/li>\n<li>Deep interest in public relations and conservation education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ACE Emerging Professionals must be willing to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong>\u00a0Marijuana and other controlled substances are not allowed at any time during the performance of duties or while on federal property, regardless of State law or qualified medical marijuana card status.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"how-apply-header\">HOW TO APPLY<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>To Apply:<\/strong>\u00a0Please submit your resume, a cover letter demonstrating your interest and experience, and contact information for three professional\/academic references to the online application page for this position here:<a href=\"https:\/\/usaconservation.applicantpool.com\/jobs\/\">\u00a0https:\/\/usaconservation.applicantpool.com\/jobs\/<\/a><u>.<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Early consideration will be given as resumes are received.
