WEST is growing our detection dog services, and\u00a0this is an exciting opportunity to join our team and become a part of important wildlife monitoring and\u00a0research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Evaluating and overseeing training of detection dog\/handler teams for post-construction\u00a0mortality monitoring surveys at wind and solar projects<\/li>\n<li>Conducting field work using detection dogs, including post-construction mortality monitoring\u00a0surveys at wind and solar projects<\/li>\n<li>Managing field work at multiple projects, with multiple technicians<\/li>\n<li>Field surveys for birds, bats, and other species<\/li>\n<li>Habitat assessments and surveys for rare species<\/li>\n<li>Serving as field supervisor for various wildlife surveys<\/li>\n<li>Report preparation, data analysis and management<\/li>\n<li>Promoting WEST\u2019s research through publication in scientific journals, giving presentations at\u00a0conferences, and supporting business development activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is a general description of the functions for this position and is not inclusive of the duties which\u00a0may be associated with this position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>The Research Biologist we are seeking has a great opportunity to help WEST take the next step in our\u00a0growth as a full service environmental consulting firm. The successful candidate must be a self-starter\u00a0who possesses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ownership of a working dog with previous detection experience, or ownership of a dog suitable\u00a0for training for scent work.<\/li>\n<li>Prior experience using detection dogs for wildlife surveys, and training detection dogs<\/li>\n<li>Candidates with demonstrable knowledge of dog behavior, reward-based training and\u00a0communication is desired<\/li>\n<li>Master\u2019s Degree in wildlife biology, or Bachelor\u2019s degree in biology or related field combined\u00a0with significant field experience<\/li>\n<li>Experience designing and implementing wildlife studies<\/li>\n<li>Strong verbal and writing skills<\/li>\n<li>Experience supervising employees<\/li>\n<li>Ability to travel for field work<\/li>\n<li>The ability to follow instructions from managers; interact effectively with coworkers, clients, and\u00a0agencies; and be able to accept guidance and constructive criticism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Physical Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants must be in good physical condition, as surveys will require walking for entire shifts in\u00a0locations where temperatures and conditions can be extreme, and the terrain can be uneven.<\/li>\n<li>Technicians must be equipped with and provide own suitable safety toed footwear (rugged\u00a0hiking boots, etc.) and clothing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre- employment\u00a0background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets WEST\u2019s minimum criteria to\u00a0operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company.
