The Curry Preserve on Lummi Island<\/em><\/p>\n Salary Details:<\/strong> Monthly stipend of $1,945.24 through AmeriCorps program Find full details at https:\/\/www.conservationjobboard.com\/job-listing-stewardship-member-lummi-island-washington\/310682897<\/a><\/p>\n Lummi Island Heritage Trust (LIHT) is an accredited land trust serving the local community by conserving and caring for the valuable natural areas, native habitats, and open space on this beautiful island. Located a short ferry ride from near Bellingham, the small, rural community is full of lush forests, vibrant wetlands, rocky shorelines, and intimate farms. The Stewardship Member will play an integral role within LIHT. Each position is responsible for being a positive ambassador for our mission\u00a0to create a legacy of open space, native habitat, and natural resources on Lummi Island by inspiring people to protect and care for the island\u2019s farms, forests, wetlands and shorelines forever.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n The Stewardship Member\u2019s responsibilities will fall under two main categories. The first aspect of duties is to implement appropriate land steward activities on LIHT conserved properties. This includes invasive species control, restoration project management, planting, forest maintenance and thinning, trail maintenance, public access, signage, environmental education as it relates to stewardship, and facility maintenance. Completing annual monitoring visits and reports and maintaining landowner relations will also be undertaken. The second part of this role includes volunteer coordination such as engaging, inspiring, recruiting, celebrating, and supervising volunteers for stewardship tasks. The Stewardship Member will coordinate work parties and maintain equipment used for conducting stewardship tasks as well as keep detailed records of volunteer assistance and data.<\/p>\n LIHT will ensure the AmeriCorps member receives a well-rounded term of service gaining experience in nearly all aspects of nature preserve management, and an extensive introduction to non-profit land trust organizations. Applicants should have an academic background in environmental studies or science, and\/or have non-academic experience relevant to land stewardship. They should be organized, ready to lead community members with varied backgrounds, comfortable serving outside in the elements, and able to serve independently as well as with a team.\u00a0<\/p>\n OW TO APPLY<\/span><\/p>\n
