If you love working in the outdoors, appreciate a remote natural environment, enjoy providing assistance to the public, and have good practical forestry skills with a proven ability for working as part of a small team, then this is the job for you.<\/p>\n<p>This position is responsible for collecting and evaluating data on young forest stands to ensure adequate stocking levels are present in order to meet future forest management goals and objectives. This position is also responsible for analyzing site factors and competing vegetation conditions and plans future silvicultural activities to promote forest health and productivity, increase revenue for the trusts, and sustain wildlife habitat. Additionally, this position prepares and administers silviculture contracts with both private contractors and Olympic Correction Center crews.<\/p>\n<p>The duty station is located in Forks, WA on the west side of the beautiful Olympic Peninsula. Within close proximity of the duty station there are endless miles of trails, rivers, and coastlines to explore!<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Duties<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure proper reforestation and timely vegetation management with acceptable survival, site occupancy and maximum tree growth rates.<\/li>\n<li>Collect, summarize and analyze young forest data.<\/li>\n<li>Select and prioritize appropriate treatments to be included in the contract and inmate correctional camp work plans to achieve the desired results.<\/li>\n<li>Produce quality silviculture contracts using knowledge of policies, procedures, rules and regulations and program deliverables.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate clear communication of contractual requirements to the public, contractors, and internal stakeholders through written documents, in person meetings and public outreach.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure environmental, social, political, contractual, and fiscal objectives are met. Resolve disputes to the full extent in accordance with contractual obligations. Maintain written documentation of resolutions.<\/li>\n<li>Foster good working relations with community and adjacent landowners. Be transparent about our operations. Consult and negotiate with adjacent landowners and external stakeholders through various means including public meetings, field site visits, and written and oral communication to resolve property line discrepancies.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure a safe work environment and foster good working relationship with neighbors and stakeholders. Best management practices will be used by employees and contractors, including proper use of herbicides, adherence to all rules and regulations, Worker Protection Standards and department safety protocols.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This may be filled as an in-training that is designated as a 24 month training plan that may be extended to a maximum of 36 months. \u00a0If you complete all elements of the training steps in a shorter amount of time, we may waive the remainder of the time required. (Salary range:\u00a0$3,887-$5,229 per month)<\/em>, depending on qualifications.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Qualifications<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Natural Resource Specialist 1 (NRS2-In-Training) candidate has:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge\u00a0of\u00a0all\u00a0laws,\u00a0policies,\u00a0and\u00a0practices\u00a0related\u00a0to\u00a0timber\u00a0sales\u00a0program.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of timber and land management planning\u00a0and\u00a0practices.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge\u00a0of\u00a0silviculture\u00a0contract\u00a0preparation\u00a0and\u00a0administration.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge\u00a0of\u00a0theory,\u00a0policy,\u00a0principles\u00a0and\u00a0practices\u00a0of\u00a0the forestry profession as applied to Northwestern\u00a0United States (i.e., fundamentals of: silviculture of\u00a0Northwest species, markets and economics, cruising\u00a0methods, sales layout, logging methods, engineering,\u00a0plant nutrition, propagation and weed control,\u00a0reforestation and intensive forest practices, recreation,\u00a0multiple use, inventory, water quality, watershed\u00a0management and basic principles of fisheries\u00a0management).<\/li>\n<li>Written and verbal communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitation and negotiation skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.<\/li>\n<li>The incumbent in this position is required to travel.<\/li>\n<li>Licensed as Herbicide Applicator or ability to obtain within six months of employment with Laws and Safety, R\/W and Agricultural weed endorsements.<\/li>\n<li>A valid driver\u2019s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function.
