The Air Quality Program works to monitor air quality and reduce air pollution to protect the health of everyone who lives, works, and plays in Washington. We also work to protect Washington\u2019s future by tracking our state\u2019s efforts to cut the carbon pollution that drives climate change and implementing carbon reduction programs.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecy.wa.gov\/programs\/air\/airhome.html\">Air Quality Program<\/a>\u00a0(AQP) is looking to fill the\u00a0<strong>Climate Commitment Act Community engagement Specialist (Community Outreach &amp; Environmental Education Specialist 4)<\/strong>\u00a0position. This position will be based at our Headquarters Building in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ci.lacey.wa.us\/\">Lacey, WA<\/a>., but will work with communities in different parts of the state.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Help protect Washington\u2019s future:<\/strong>\u00a0You can help to protect our communities from air pollution and protect our state\u2019s future from the threat of climate change. As part of the Climate Commitment Act, a new law designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Washington, the Legislature established a linked program to monitor air quality in communities that today bear a disproportionate burden from air pollution, and take steps to reduce that pollution.<\/p>\n<p>Working closely with communities and Tribes is essential to the success of this monitoring and pollution reduction work, and this position will lead Ecology\u2019s outreach and engagement efforts. Along with reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions, the Climate Commitment Act charges Ecology with also reducing toxic air pollution, and working closely with the communities most affected by pollution. Engaging with these communities, educating them about Ecology\u2019s work, and listening to their input are critical if this effort is to succeed.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What you\u2019ll do:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This community engagement position leads the development and implementation of the community engagement plan required in the Climate Commitment Act.<\/li>\n<li>This may include organizing and presenting at public meetings, creating outreach and education materials, meeting with community leaders and other stakeholders, coordinating with local governments, tribes and clean air agencies, speaking with members of the media, collaborating with other Ecology environmental programs, and responding to community questions and requests.<\/li>\n<li>This position will also play a key role in supporting Ecology\u2019s agency-wide environmental justice efforts and the state Environmental Justice Council and Interagency Work Group.<\/li>\n<li>This position will also support public outreach and engagement during the development of the Climate Commitment Act\u2019s greenhouse gas reduction program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Qualifications<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong><u>Required Qualifications:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are multiple ways to meet the requirements for this position.
