Your role will be to encourage community building and capacity, to nurture civic engagement, and foster environmental ethics inclusively and equitably with a wide range of participants. Being able to build strong and authentic relationships across cultures is foundational to this work.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Job Responsibilities<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><u>You will manage:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Property \u2013 working with property owners, city departments, public agencies, and private groups<\/li>\n<li>Activities \u2013 ensuring successful functioning of community garden and open space property<\/li>\n<li>People \u2013 recordkeeping, including fee collection, plot assignments, quality of plot usage, and adherence to program regulations<\/li>\n<li>Projects \u2013 volunteer-initiated or direct improvement and development project, including budgetary oversight<\/li>\n<li>Program Tools\/Database \u2013 provide technical support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>You will support development of:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Programming \u2013 making programs more inclusive, including the use of translation and interpretation services<\/li>\n<li>Tools \u2013 create and implement written materials, rules and policies, best practices, etc. to aid volunteers<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer leadership \u2013 foster and support volunteer skill development \u2013 building community, communication, and conflict resolution<\/li>\n<li>Policies and guidelines \u2013 to address emerging issues in the community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>To be successful in this role, you will be:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Community minded \u2013 using an equity lens to find new ways to engage and involve more community members<\/li>\n<li>Organized \u2013 prioritizing and re-prioritizing as program needs and demands change<\/li>\n<li>Pro-active \u2013 taking the initiative, looking for ways to improve and expand the program<\/li>\n<li>Environmentally focused \u2013 practicing organic gardening and connecting people to nature and healthy produce<\/li>\n<li>Administratively capable \u2013 using tools like Microsoft Suite to enter and complete work and communicate with coworkers and program participants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Qualifications<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>In addition to having the ability to successfully accomplish the work listed above, the following are required:<\/p>\n<p>\nFour years of related work experience<\/p>\n<p><strong>Or<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Three years of related work experience<\/p>\n<p><strong>And<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An associate\u2019s degree related to horticulture, agriculture, social science, planning, environmental studies or a related field<\/p>\n<p><strong>Or<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two years of related work experience<\/p>\n<p>And<\/p>\n<p>A baccalaureate degree in horticulture, agriculture, social science, planning, environmental studies, or a related field<\/p>\n<p><strong>Licensure:<\/strong>\u00a0 A current drivers&#8217; license or evidence of equivalent mobility<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Physical Demands:<\/strong>\u00a0Gardening and tool operation demonstration work may involve safely lifting up to 50 pounds. \u00a0Work outdoors in all types of weather; and may require standing, walking, or bending for extended periods of time<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Additional Information<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>To be considered for this role, please complete the online application fully and attach:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A PDF of your current resume<\/li>\n<li>A cover letter that explains your interest in this job and what you have done to build community capacity and engagement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nThis role will require a tetanus shot and a back strength and flexibility test for the successful candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Questions? \u00a0Please contact Kate Moore at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:kate.moore@seattle.gov\">kate.moore@seattle.gov<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>The City of Seattle values diverse perspectives and life experiences.
