This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of qualifications, skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities or working conditions associated with the position.<\/p>\n<p>Job purpose<\/p>\n<p>The Summer Camp Educator Intern position is an opportunity to learn under the supervision and guidance of experienced environmental educators. In this role, the Summer Camp Educator Intern will assist with the planning and delivery of WRI Youth Summer Camps. This position is responsible for the safety, enjoyment, and education of summer camp campers entering grades 1-6. WRI Summer Camps are structured to spend their days outdoors. This position works as a teammate to other WRI youth summer staff, volunteers, and interns and reports directly to the WRI Education Director.<\/p>\n<p>This is a seasonal intern position. The Summer Camp Educator Intern will work 32-40 hours\/week mid-June through mid-August. Specific start and end dates will be determined based on intern availability and school calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Duties and responsibilities<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Act as field group instructor during camps<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Develop curriculum and activities for camps<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ensure physical and emotional health and safety of all participants<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Assist other WRI staff as needed<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Assist and support volunteers and high school interns<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Operate and maintain lab and field equipment<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Set up and clean-up activities and facilities<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Collaborate with education staff<\/p>\n<p>Qualifications<\/p>\n<p>The candidate must be self-motivated, outgoing, reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively with co-workers, kids, parents, and community members.<\/p>\n<p>Minimum qualifications include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Experience in environmental, experiential, and\/or outdoor education<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Relevant experience in teaching youth in a formal or informal capacity<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Demonstrated commitment to stewardship, conservation, and connecting youth to nature<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and community<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ability to be flexible and adjust quickly to changing circumstances<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ability to get to Wenatchee River Institute<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Professionalism with adults and parents<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Current First Aid &amp; CPR certification<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Pass background check 2<\/p>\n<p>Preferred qualifications include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Knowledge of Central Washington flora &amp; fauna<\/p>\n<p>Working conditions<\/p>\n<p>WRI maintains a positive work environment allowing staff to work in various locations and have flexibility in scheduling depending on workload and programming. Employees are expected to dress and act in an appropriately professional manner at all times while representing WRI, use good judgement and make sound decisions in the absence of specific directions. The majority of work will occur between the hours of 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday, though on occasion this position may require work outside of these times.<\/p>\n<p>Physical requirements<\/p>\n<p>The Summer Camp Educator Intern will regularly be working with WRI staff, students, and volunteers in an outdoor setting. Candidates must be physically fit and capable of strenuous work on uneven terrain. Candidates must also have the ability to work in variable weather conditions (heat, rain, snow) and have adequate personal outdoor clothing to ensure comfort.<\/p>\n<p>Direct reports None.<\/p>\n<p>Compensation<\/p>\n<p>Private room in shared house on the Wenatchee River. Walking distance to WRI. Utilities included (no internet).
