Participate in habitat development and wildlife status trends by conducting surveys and implementing habitat development plans. Haul and spread dirt, rocks, and gravel, using a dump truck. Use of a road grader, backhoe, and crawler tractor to construct and repair roads. Install, remove, clean out, and repair cattle guards;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"DEFAULT\">\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Assist the Fish and Technician Senior with work of seasonal, and temporary employees as well as volunteers in the management activities within the west side units such as: road and parking lot maintenance; ensuring that the area is adequately posted with wildlife area regulation and directional signs; litter is picked up; maintenance and construction of fences, gates, trails, foot bridges and nest structures; and maintain and repair water control systems which includes pumps, ditches, water control valves, and dikes.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"DEFAULT\">\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Issue daily permits to hunters, check hunter bag and identify sex, age, species of harvested waterfowl, records hunter data. Answer public information requests in person and by phone. Check hunters\u2019 license stamps, permits, and report violations to the Oregon State Police or Columbia County Deputy. Patrol area by foot and vehicle to ensure compliance with wildlife area regulations and gather harvest data during hunting seasons. Perform preventive and corrective repairs using hand tools as well as power equipment on buildings, equipment and grounds as needed<\/p>\n<p dir=\"DEFAULT\">\n<p dir=\"LTR\">The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\n<b>Working Conditions <\/b><br \/>\n\u2022 The employee in this position is required to live on station as a condition of employment (unless state housing is not available). The employee must be available to respond to emergency situations.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"DEFAULT\">\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Frequently required to work outside during inclement weather, long hours, before sunrise and after sunset, on weekends, and irregular (flexible) work schedules.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"DEFAULT\">\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Requires lifting heavy objects of 50 pounds (or more with assistance if\/when necessary).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"DEFAULT\">\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Working with the public, local residents, and other agency personnel are frequent and a well-developed sense of diplomacy is necessary.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"DEFAULT\">\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 This position requires the possession of a <b>Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL)<\/b>. If the selected applicant does not possess a CDL, they are required to obtain this license within six months of hire and must retain it as a condition of continued employment in this position. The department will pay for up to $100 toward the cost of the CDL exam and renewal reimbursement. The cost of the physical exam would be covered if the employee is enrolled in PEBB for medical insurance. Pursuant to the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and Federal Highway Administration regulations, candidates must successfully pass an alcohol\/controlled substance test before being hired into this position. Additionally, employees required to hold a CDL will be subject to random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up alcohol\/controlled substance testing as a condition of employment.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"DEFAULT\">\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 This position requires a <b>Boater Education Card<\/b> obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board. There are some exceptions to this (e.g., Coast Guard Boat Operator License or commercial fishing license). If the selected applicant does not possess these certifications, they must obtain within six months of hire as a condition of continued employment.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"DEFAULT\">\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 This position requires occasional use of a firearm to deliver immobilization drugs and projecting nets for wildlife capture, euthanizing injured or sick wildlife, killing or hazing nuisance animals or birds, collecting animals for research or other studies, and protection from dangerous animals in close quarters.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\n\u2022 Requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. This includes working at all hours and workdays in excess of eight hours.\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b>Criminal Records\/DMV Check<\/b><br \/>\nApplicants\u00a0are subject to both a\u00a0criminal history and motor vehicles check. <b>Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current <u>certified<\/u> driving record for review to be considered for the position. Be prepared to obtain as soon as possible.
