The position is located in our Southwest Regional Office (SWRO) in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ci.lacey.wa.us\/\">Lacey, WA.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In this role you will use your creative writing skills to\u00a0provide outreach and administrative support for the Tacoma Smelter Plume project.\u00a0The Tacoma Smelter Plume is a high priority project for the Toxics Cleanup Program. Nearly 1000 square miles of Puget Sound were polluted by the Asarco smelter in Tacoma. Many communities are impacted by the smelter pollution.\u00a0You will work collaboratively with Tacoma Smelter Plume team members to ensure that homeowners and residents are educated about the cleanup process by providing education and outreach to property owners about TSP contamination, healthy actions they can take, and cleanup options under the Yard Program.<\/p>\n<p>Your strong communication skills coupled with excellent people skills and your ability to work on a team in a fast paced environment will help you be successful in this role.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Agency and Program Mission<\/strong>: \u00a0Ecology\u2019s mission is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington&#8217;s environment, and promote the wise management of our air, land and water. Asarco operated a smelter in Tacoma for nearly 100 years. Ecology is addressing the legacy of contamination from the smelter as part of the Tacoma Smelter Plume project (TSP). The TSP Yard Cleanup Program is focused on soil sampling and remediation of residential properties. Nearly 1200 properties qualify for soil replacement. The TSP Yard Program is a high priority project for the Toxics Cleanup Program covering two regions &#8211; the Northwest Regional Office (NWRO) and the Southwest Regional Office (SWRO). Funding for this work comes from the Asarco bankruptcy settlement.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the key work activities include:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Home visits with the Field Coordinator to help homeowners understand their cleanup plan, do a walk-through of the yard, and a pre-construction walk-through with the cleanup contractor.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating mailings and\u00a0knock and talks to offer soil cleanup to homeowners in Tacoma.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating with local health departments to answer health questions from the public.<\/li>\n<li>Planning and preparing cleanup team for annual or biannual public meetings about cleanup progress.<\/li>\n<li>Planning and preparing cleanup team for pre-construction neighborhood meetings before each round of cleanup work.<\/li>\n<li>Tracking signed property access agreements and other paperwork.<\/li>\n<li>Responding to calls from homeowners and residents.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating post-cleanup surveys, entering data, and writing recommendations for program improvements.<\/li>\n<li>Designing and updating the TSP yard cleanup program webpages, ListServ\u2019s and blog.<\/li>\n<li>Designing, updating and printing handouts, fact sheets, letters, postcards, door hangers and other materials for the program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Qualifications<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong><u>Required Qualifications:<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Option 1:<\/strong>\u00a0A Bachelor\u2019s degree involving a major study in environmental, physical, or natural science, education, communications or closely related field\u00a0<strong>AND<\/strong>\u00a0three years of professional experience involving environmental analysis or control, environmental planning, environmental education, community outreach, or communications activities and conflict resolution. or equivalent education\/experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Option 2:<\/strong>\u00a0Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for education.
