Length of season(s) may be shortened or extended depending on project needs, funding, or factors beyond the project\u2019s control).<\/i><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b><u>Job Description:<\/u><\/b> <b>What you will do:<\/b> These positions serve as a member of a 4-person crew for the lower Rogue River\/Huntley Park Seining Project. The data collected is used to determine population status and to help manage the fisheries resources in the Rogue as well as the salmon resources in the ocean. Crew members conduct seining (beginning at daylight)on the lower Rogue River three days\/week (M,W,F) through the season. Duties include: driving and trailering a boat, deploying and retrieving a 300\u2019 beach seine to capture adult salmon and steelhead; identifying fish species, sex, measure lengths, take scale and dna samples; records data on data logger and performs quality check; performs routine maintenance on boats, nets, and various equipment.\u00a0 On non seining days, crew members will work on various other district activities; for example; rotary smolt trap, salmon broodstock collection, presentations and outreach, report writing, and customer service<\/p>\n<p dir=\"DEFAULT\"><span class=\"WEJ2\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">These positions require strenuous work (retrieval of a 300\u2019 beach seine and handling large, sometimes 50lb. fish) during summer months when weather can be quite warm (90-100 degrees); walking over gravel bars in waders; employees will occasionally be working independently under adverse weather conditions in semi-remote areas.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">These positions require a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">Questions about the positions? Please contact <span class=\"WEJ2\">Steve.J.Mazur@odfw.oregon.us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b><u><span class=\"WEJ2\">Requirements\/Requested<\/span> Skills:<\/u> <\/b>Minimum qualifications are not established for these positions; however we are seeking applicants with the following related skills and experience (experience handling salmon and steelhead, biological sampling of salmon, using computers and electronic equipment, and data entry on loggers; ability to identify adult and juvenile salmon and steelhead, communicate with anglers and other members of the public, and keep neat and precise field data) and who possess or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in <span class=\"WEJ2\">biological\/ecological<\/span> sciences. Preference for interviews may be given to candidates with this background.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">These positions require a Boater Education Card obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board. There are some exceptions to this (e.g., Coast Guard Boat Operator License or commercial fishing license).
