This position will also perform a variety of technical and manual labor duties for the protection\u00a0of fish species.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Assist\u00a0fish regional screening staff as assigned by performing manual labor and operating heavy equipment (dump truck with <span class=\"WEJ2\">trailer\u00a0backhoe,<\/span> excavator\/trackhoe, fork-lift, overhead cranes, boom truck, etc.). Construct and fabricate fish screen systems and passage devices involving metal components, concrete forms and other associated parts and materials for installation at water diversions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <span class=\"WEJ2\">Construction\/fabrication<\/span> activities involve welding, carpentry, masonry, equipment operation, mechanics and assembly of screening systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Monitor the effectiveness of\u00a0fish screens by periodic <span class=\"WEJ2\">inspections.\u00a0Perform<\/span> minor maintenance (inspection, lubrication, cleaning) and\u00a0major maintenance (solar repairs, fabrication, replacement\u00a0and repair of screen components using skills such as welding) on fish screens as needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Maintain inventory of equipment, tools, parts and supplies necessary to construct, repair and maintain fish <span class=\"WEJ2\">screening\u00a0systems.<\/span> Determine and recommend purchases for <span class=\"WEJ2\">screening\u00a0tools,<\/span> parts and\u00a0supplies to the supervisor.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Use firearm (occasionally) to euthanize sick or injured wildlife or killing or hazing nuisance animals.<\/p>\n<p><b>Working Conditions <\/b><br \/>\n\u2022 Exposure to adverse weather conditions. Requires maintenance and construction work in and around water.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 May require travel up to a week at a time.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Frequent operation of construction related <span class=\"WEJ2\">equipment,\u00a0concrete<\/span> vibrators, pumps, hand tools, power saws and heavy equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Occasional lifting\u00a0of construction materials of up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Occasionally required to walk long distances, carrying tools and supplies to structure sites.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. This includes working at all hours and workdays in excess of eight hours.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 This position requires occasional use of a firearm to deliver immobilization drugs and projecting nets for wildlife capture, euthanizing injured or sick wildlife, killing or hazing nuisance animals or birds, collecting animals for research or other studies, and protection from dangerous animals in close quarters.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 This position requires an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Safety Education Card for on the job use of quads (Class 1 ATVs) obtained through the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, accessible at the following website: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rideatvoregon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"WEJ2\">www.rideatvoregon.org\/<\/span><\/a>. The department will pay for up to $100 toward the cost of the CDL exam and renewal reimbursement. The cost of the physical exam would be covered if the employee is enrolled in PEBB for medical insurance. Pursuant to the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and Federal Highway Administration regulations, candidates must successfully pass an alcohol\/controlled substance test before being hired into this position. Additionally, employees required to hold a CDL will be subject to random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up alcohol\/controlled substance testing as a condition of employment.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b>Criminal Records\/DMV Check<\/b><br \/>\nApplicants\u00a0are subject to both a\u00a0criminal history and motor vehicles check.
