The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is dedicated<\/strong>\u00a0to preserving, protecting and perpetuating fish, wildlife and ecosystems, while providing sustainable recreational and commercial opportunities dependent on viable fish and wildlife populations. WDFW employees protect and restore critical habitat, strive to facilitate species recovery when necessary, and manage hundreds of fish and wildlife species.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Natural Resource Technician 2\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>assists\u00a0the Biologist conducting Spartina eradication, invasive knotweed control and other land management projects across multiple watersheds to meet weed laws and improve habitat.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Natural Resource Technician 2\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>gathers pre- and post-treatment data using apps, forms, cameras and notebooks. \u00a0The Natural Resource Technician 2 operates, cleans, and maintains equipment associated with weed management.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n
- Duties<\/dt>\n

\nKey Duties Include but not limited to:<\/strong><\/p>\nImplements existing vegetation management programs to enhance habitat.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n
- \n
- Implements integrated pest management (IPM) principles to manage invasive vegetation using pesticides, planning of competing vegetation, spray equipment and mowing\/digging equipment.<\/li>\n
- Based on gathered data and field experience recommends changes to improve outcomes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Operates cleans and serves tools and equipment<\/strong><\/p>\n
Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n
Operates and performs maintenance and repair on airboats, marshmasters, trailers, trucks, pumps and other power equipment.<\/p>\n
Gather data<\/strong><\/p>\n

- Leading work crews on our lands and acting a liaison when working with other agencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- Work will be performed in the intertidal regions of Washington in all weather conditions.<\/li>\n
- Works in remote field locations approximately 75% of the time.<\/li>\n
- Willing and able to walk over difficult terrain, including slippery rocks, steep banks, and mud.<\/li>\n
- Must be able to bend, stoop, while at times carrying up to 40 pounds, road, and transport gear.<\/li>\n
- Must be willing to work with pesticides.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Schedule:<\/strong><\/p>\n

- Monday \u2013 Friday, 40 hours\/week.<\/li>\n
- Start times are set by the best available tides and may require early morning starts.<\/li>\n
- Some mandatory overtime may be required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- \u00a0Some projects in other areas of the state require occasional weekend travel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n
Tools and Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n

- Operates and maintains small mechanical equipment such as brush cutters.<\/li>\n
- Operates chemical application equipment.<\/li>\n
- Removes seedlings and small clones by hand.<\/li>\n
- Operates specialized equipment such as trucks, swamp buggies, airboats, and all-terrain vehicles and performs repairs and preventative maintenance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- Valid Driver\u2019s License<\/li>\n
- Public Pesticide Applicator\u2019s license with an Aquatic and Turf & Ornamental endorsement after hire date.<\/li>\n

Required Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n

- High school graduation or GED<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

- 6-months of natural resource related labor experience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n
Preferred Experience:<\/strong><\/p>\n
- \n
- Experience operating small boats in marine areas.<\/li>\n
- Must be familiar with and comfortable navigating Willapa Bay and Grays Harbor estuary and nearby waterbodies.<\/li>\n
- Ability to closely follow standard protocols and perform work under moderate to low supervision.<\/li>\n
- \u00a0 Working knowledge of boat and amphibious tractor operation.<\/li>\n
- Knowledge of herbicide application.<\/li>\n
- Understanding of basic mechanical\/small engine repair.<\/li>\n
- Basic understanding of the marine environment and biology\/botany.<\/li>\n
- Excellent field work skills including safety, punctuality, ability to accept supervision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n
