Participate in statewide nearshore semi-pelagic rockfish survey. Take multi-day or single day trips to sea on-board commercial or chartered fishing vessels. Work on vessels as part of a research team. Deploy, operate, calibrate, and maintain complex field equipment, including (for example) underwater stereo video systems, hydro acoustic systems, oceanographic sensors and moorings. Assist in the design, and conduct field experiments to test video equipment performance and capabilities, and develop statistically valid sampling protocols that will guide use of the equipment in subsequent fieldwork.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Analyze data from research projects. Use specialized hydro acoustic software (e.g., Echoview) to analyze hydro acoustic data and develop population estimates. Analyze hydro acoustic data. Use specialized underwater stereo video software (e.g., EventMeasure and Cal) to count and measure fish. Post process and QAQC these data. Apply and interpret statistical test procedures (ANOVA, regression, logistic regression, nonparametric tests, etc.) to analyze data. Evaluate variables for normality, heteroscedasticity; apply and test transformations to dependent and independent variables prior to applying statistical tests. Summarize analyses in tables and figures.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Draft portions of final reports and scientific papers describing research projects. Develop written summaries of field methods used in research studies. Review drafts of scientific reports and contribute to Introduction, Results and Discussion sections. Review and synthesize in writing existing scientific literature on specific assigned topics. Use GIS software (ArcView, ArcMap, etc.) to develop maps depicting scientific study areas and sampling sites. Use hydro acoustic software (Echoview) to develop echogram figures for documentation. Use R statistical software to summarize and synthesize data streams.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\n<b>Working Conditions <\/b><br \/>\n\u2022 The person in this position will participate in a research cruise extending from August 1 to approximately October 15, 2021. The person in this position will be expected to be on call 7 days a week during this time period and should intend to spend a considerable amount of time at sea.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Considerable time will be spent doing data analysis using a computer, extracting data from underwater video, processing hydro acoustic data, conducting statistical analyses and writing.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 This position requires a Boater Education Card obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board. There are some exceptions to this (e.g., Coast Guard Boat Operator License or commercial fishing license).
