\u00a0Do you want to make a positive impact to the recovery of federal ESA listed anadromous stocks? \u00a0\u00a0If so, then join a great team that shares your interests!<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>WDFW staff comprise a talented and passionate group of people dedicated to protecting Washington\u2019s natural resources while providing sustainable recreational opportunities for all.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Duties<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>Work in the Coded-Wire Tag (CWT) Recovery Unit, in a laboratory setting, processing all tagged salmon heads, totaling up to 100,000, from all the salmon fisheries, spawning ground recoveries and hatchery rack returns in Washington waters. The salmon heads are collected from both marine and freshwater collection centers throughout Puget Sound, Strait of Juan de Fuca, ocean areas, Columbia and Snake River and their tributaries. The data is used by biologists and managers to meet specific deadlines for pre-season planning and in-season management.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Duties Include but not limited to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Coring and Dissecting Specimens<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work collaboratively with other employees to ensure snout counts and data are correct.<\/li>\n<li>Count accurately and keep samples organized by fishery.<\/li>\n<li>Keep tools and equipment in the same location so that all employees can find them. Avoid writing over data on the snout labels.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid tearing or destroying data labels. Print legible. Review\/recheck work after interruptions.<\/li>\n<li>Foreseeing potential problems \/getting clarification on what the process should be.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Reading and transcribing data onto appropriate forms.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remember differences among the 11 fisheries year to year.<\/li>\n<li>Able to interpret\/decipher and organize data.<\/li>\n<li>Transcribe error free data. Record data in all fields.<\/li>\n<li>Review\/recheck data for errors after interruptions. Print legible.<\/li>\n<li>Appropriate manual dexterity and physical skills.<\/li>\n<li>Pay close attention to detail.<\/li>\n<li>Able to adapt to data changes.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain visual acuity.<\/li>\n<li>Foreseeing potential problems\/getting clarification on what the process should be. Able to listen and follow instructions.<\/li>\n<li>Able to communicate verbally and written.<\/li>\n<li>Stay focused \u2013 able to concentrate.<\/li>\n<li>Able to use a microscope<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Data entry into appropriate fishery and recovery year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enter data into the correct recovery year, fishery and assigned batch number.<\/li>\n<li>Able to enter alpha and numeric characters accurately.<\/li>\n<li>Review\/recheck data for errors after interruptions.<\/li>\n<li>Able to associate words with numbers and vice versa.<\/li>\n<li>Type accurately while using a computer keyboard.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of watersheds, drainages and major waterways including: the ocean, Puget Sound, Columbia River and the Snake River throughout and surrounding Washington State for freshwater and marine water fisheries.<\/li>\n<li>Hand\/eye coordination.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of 11 different fisheries.<\/li>\n<li>Pay close attention to detail. Stay focused \u2013 able to concentrate.<\/li>\n<li>Foreseeing potential problems\/getting clarification on what the process should be.
