There are three DEQ regions (Northwest, Western, and Eastern); this position is in Western Region. The regions provide the following services: compliance inspection of regulated entities; enforcement of permit requirements and administrative rules; issuance of air, water, and solid waste permits; investigation of complaints; issuance of subsurface permits in counties; response to spills or other incidents with environmental impacts; direct contact and liaison with other governmental entities, industries, and the public; and technical assistance to regulated entities and the public. If you are passionate about Oregon&#8217;s environment, apply today!\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><i>This is a full-time, AFSCME represented position.<\/i><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><i>This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies.<\/i><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><span class=\"emphasis-3\"><b>What are we looking for?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor\u2019s degree in physical science, environmental science, natural resources, or a closely related field, AND 2 years of experience in a natural resource or environmental field <i>(an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable).<\/i><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">Candidates who are most competitive will also reflect the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience with project management, including directing all phases of environmental investigations and cleanups of sites contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons or other hazardous substances.<\/li>\n<li>Experience overseeing the work of independent environmental <span class=\"WFV2\">consultants\/contractors,<\/span> including work involving habitat restoration, well construction, beneficial well water use surveying, drilling for samples, tank decommissioning and cleanup, and cleanup of contaminated sites.<\/li>\n<li>Experience collecting air, water, soil, and\/or sediment samples.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data management and manipulation; proficiency in Google Earth and Adobe Acrobat for making site maps.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working in a cost recovery environment where project and administrative (non-billable) hours are closely tracked.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organization skills; experience working with the public to convey program information; exceptional customer service skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work in a team environment; a team player with high emotional intelligence.<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience taking initiative.<\/li>\n<li>Experience driving a truck and trailer; ability to use and maintain power tools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><span class=\"emphasis-3\"><b>Working Conditions: <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">Work is primarily in an office setting with occasional field visits to sites to oversee, inspect, evaluate, or conduct field investigations at contaminated sites. Occasional lifting and bending will occur.
