The Lands and Forest Health Archaeologist Internship provides the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the practical application of historic preservation and cultural resource management in an on-the-job environment all while gleaning valuable knowledge from the WDFW Team!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Duties<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\nSome of what you will learn to do,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
- \n
- Assist Lands and Forest Health Archaeologists in documenting cultural resources.<\/li>\n
- Perform research and field documentation for historic property inventory forms, and historic archaeological site inventory forms.<\/li>\n
- Perform cultural resource surveys and cultural resource monitoring.<\/li>\n
- Write cultural resource reports.<\/li>\n
- Evaluate historic built-environment resources by applying National Park Service criteria.<\/li>\n
- Assist archaeologists in acquiring necessary cultural clearances to perform project(s).<\/li>\n
- Assist in writing consultation letters for appropriate regulatory agencies and consulting parties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
WORKING CONDITIONS:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

- Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong>\n
- \n
- Field work is performed at various locations throughout Washington State \u2013 this includes active construction sites, working around large equipment and working on active hatchery sites.<\/li>\n
- Field work entails working in adverse environmental conditions, working in\/around water, and carrying up to 40 pounds on uneven terrain.<\/li>\n
- Teleworking\/remote options may be available.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
- Schedule: \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\n
- \n
- Variable hours ranging from 0 to 40 hours per week.<\/li>\n
- Typically, Monday \u2013 Friday \u2013 8:00 a.m. \u2013 5:00 p.m.<\/li>\n
- Workload demands may require work outside the assigned work hours and adjustment of work schedules.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
- Travel Requirements: \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\n

- Substantial field work and travel throughout Washington State is required.<\/li>\n
- Long field days and some overnight stays are likely.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
- Tools and Equipment:<\/strong>\n

- Pickup trucks, standard office equipment, GPS units, cameras, and hand tools for digging.<\/li>\n
- Operating a digital camera including downloading images to a computer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
- Customer Interactions: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>\n

Qualifications<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Those who have three (3) months of volunteer\/employment experience in natural or cultural resource work (with a letter of recommendation from a supervisor or Tribal Historic Preservation Officer).<\/p>\n
Undergraduate students or graduate students who are considering a career change and have relevant personal or professional experience.<\/p>\n
Those undergoing study or who have recently completed an academic program that emphasized coursework in History, Historic Architecture, Historic Preservation, Cultural Resource Management, Archaeology, Anthropology, Social Science, or a related degree.<\/p>\n
Military Officers or enlisted personnel interested in pursuing a civilian career in\u00a0History, Historic Architecture, Historic Preservation, Cultural Resource Management, Archaeology, Anthropology, or Social Sciences\u00a0after the military.<\/p>\n
Certifications\/Licenses:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
