Camps have a nature theme and offer an opportunity for educators to explore and learn with small groups of children ages 5-12. Campers spend each day outdoors noticing the world, asking questions, playing in nature, and learning through games and activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camp Locations<\/strong><br \/>\nEach week, camp takes place at two of the locations listed below. \u00a0Over the nine weeks of camp, staff could be assigned to any or all of these locations and will need to find their own transportation to get there.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mt Tabor Park (SE Portland)<\/li>\n<li>Hoyt Arboretum (SW Portland)<\/li>\n<li>Sellwood Park\/Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge (SE Portland)<\/li>\n<li>Pier Park (N Portland)<\/li>\n<li>Powell Butte Nature Park (Outer SE Portland)<\/li>\n<li>Whitaker Ponds Natural Area (NE Portland)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Note for 2021: Applicants should be aware that working with children and other employees during a pandemic has added risks. We ask that before applying, each person consider their own comfort level with these risks, including the actions they are or are not willing to take to help protect fellow employees, campers, and families who might be in a high-risk category.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><strong>Summary of Nature Educator II duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put into practice all camp safety protocols and uphold COVID-safe guidelines<\/li>\n<li>Plan and lead nature-themed activities<\/li>\n<li>Build relationships with campers and families<\/li>\n<li>Create a safe space for campers to have fun and make friends<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Nature Educator II detailed responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure campers and staff follow COVID-19 guidance from all public health authorities including, but not limited to, physical distancing, wearing of face coverings, cleaning of spaces and equipment, and disinfecting high touch surfaces.<\/li>\n<li>Provide physically and emotionally safe space for campers to explore and observe the natural world.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with Nature Day Camp Team Leads to plan and lead structured and unstructured camp activities.<\/li>\n<li>Communicate with families about the camp day and work together to solve problems as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Find ways to share responsibilities with new, younger, or less experienced staff.<\/li>\n<li>Provide age-appropriate activities that present information in multiple ways to accommodate different learning styles.<\/li>\n<li>Promote community between campers and staff by playing, exploring, and learning together.<\/li>\n<li>Use creative techniques to help campers transition and get to where they need to be.<\/li>\n<li>Work to reduce risks during the camp day and respond to emergencies as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Actively participate in camp activities and have fun!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING TIMES:<\/strong>\u00a0Monday through Friday, 8am &#8211; 5pm\u00a0<em>(Every other week is a 4-day week.
